People say they don't. But, check this out.
If you will notice, 7/10 of those serps are form .edu spam pages. So clearly Matt Cutts was not being honest when he said .edu's have no extra power.

Yup, it's a shame... going after .edu wikis, blogs and forums can be a golden opportunity for all of us, but sooner or later (probably sooner) it'll get wrecked by people too stupid or too greedy to 'leave a soft footprint' and avoid blatant spamming.

    Best wishes...

Thanks a lot for the wonderful idea. I hate spamming. But since I'll be doing back a favor by submitting an article, I consider it to be not spamming.

Checking through all the indexed pages. Remarkable for the fact that the Google DC where I am at pulled up the results when I clicked on the link in the first post.

    Results 1 - 10 of about 24,200 for kwiki inurl:edu.

By the way Jeremy Smith and the Gene family has alot of index pages. Even going back past the 10th page. More to follow.

Totally agree with Ian, there will be many from dp too who will go ahead and do this, but frankly whoever does this should concentrate on quality writing... atleast i will :)

By me posting this on the forum, it may well be the nail in the coffin. Now many many people will be doing this and the method will probably lose effectiveness. But, I figured it was time to give something back to DP for all the stuff I have leaned here. :)

I also wrote this as part of my giving back thing.

But that's not a real secret like this one is.

    Dear Ly2,

    Thanks for the information!
This will help many people who believe word by word of Matt Cutts and see his advice as the ultimate guide for SERP. He is also a man working for commercial company and how in the holy cow will he reveal things that are not commercially good for his organisation
He provides some insiders opinion andits for us to use our common sense to decide which is better and which is not.
Thanks for providing the Best eyeopener for all!

If you delete the kwiki homepage and replace with your stuff, yes blackhat.
If you simply create your own little page, I'd say greyhat...maybe even ultra light greyhat lol

Interesting stuff. I'll be trying to think of useful, related articles to submit on some of those - shame my niche isn't all that educational. I really hope this doesn't get abused.

Im new to site promotion and I appreciate everyones good advice, maybe someday I will be able to share helpful information too. :)

Don't expect to get any significant traffic by doing this. The goal here is getting .edu links pointed at your website. Purely for search ranking here. ;)

If you are adding legitimate value to the conversation then it's ethical in my books. If you are just throwing up some crap in order to get a link then you're spamming, and diluting the value of the internet as a resource, which is unethical in my personal opinion.

There's nothing wrong with benefiting from your contribution, so long as your contribution is worthwhile. :)

    Best wishes...

Every page you create you should run it through QUIT to get it indexed quickly, saves time :)
Also i see a lot of people aren't adding hyperlinks because it doesn't allow html, you need to use the same as you do on all wikis. Like this: [http://www.site.com/something.html Anchor Here]
