You think article directories really work???

I am very lost about article directories for SEO. I know they have great other benefits such as brand recognition, building up twitter followers or becoming the authority in your field.

But I have been measuring rankings in Google for some keywords and it just doesn't seem that posting articles to directories works!!

What's your opinion? Please share your experience and it would be nice if you can give us some numbers!

article directories used to work like charm before and would give you hundreds of backlinks. but these days due to google's duplicate content filter, it only works if you submit unique content to each directories which is impossible. or atleast spinned article to get around duplicate content filter

I have seen a good boost in ranking with article submissions. As sultanofseo said, it's not as good as it used to be earlier, but I still find that article directories help.

I know for a fact that google and yahoo recognize the backlinks from certain directories. The two main directories that I get excellent coverage and backlinks from are www.ezinearticles.com and www.goarticles.com I have recieved both visitors and backlinks from these two. There are some that do not allow html or backlinks within the article or resource box these are the article directories to avoid.

directories in general are worthless apart the top ones.

there's just too much spam on directories nowadays, lots of automated submitters, article scrapers, automated content creators, etc

you better go for paid links in high-pr sites, that's what SEO is all about today after all, unless you believe in the hype about free backlinks for rubbish content which was maybe true until 5 yrs ago but certainly not today.

I've had success with ezinearticles but they can be pretty strict. However, your resource box at the bottom offers plenty of room to put your links. I like writing on Hubpages and Squidoo and including my links there. Squidoo is less strict than Hubpages. I like to write several posts or articles around the same topic and link them all together PLUS put a link back to my main page I'm promoting. I also like 3stepads.com, as well as unique-article-database.com and writers-block-unblocked.com. In addition, I like to make a short video for Youtube and put links to it from my articles. Submit all to social bookmarking sites. In addition, submit your feeds to feedage.com and feedest.com. This should all help!

I hear that google has a program to look for directories and article submission sites and discount links from those sites. From my experience they get counted but may be more the lower quality end. But you could get hundreds of links easily from article directories though.

you guys should better spend your time focusing on PR5+ sites and make some content or products that sell instead of trying desperately to sell shit.

Software that takes original content and summarize or "spin" the article to make it look different so Google won't slap anyone for having two pages that are exactly the same.

I recently got 12 articles approved at ezinearticles. Now, 2 days later, all of the articles are indexed by google and are included in the serps. I have gotten about 250 uniques from them so far, hopefully they will boost my page sooner than later.

I am a fan of article marketing strategy and I am quite pleased with the result that I am getting from my previous marketing campaigns.

You might want to rewrite it a little to maximize the SEO benefit that you could get from your article submission.
