    In Soviet time there were no "referendums" of any kind, you can call anything done by soviets legitimate or illegitimate, nothing changes 'cause of that. It has become history, man.

    What can you say about Ukrainians telling that while giving them Crimea Soviets have cut out parts of Eastern Regions (like Voronizh) and joined them to Russian Republic in "exchange"?

    Native Mexicans now make up a plurality of Californians, soon to be a majority. Imagine Mexico rolling it's troops across our borders into California and rushing through a referendum vote on who wants to secede from the US and join Mexico. The votes exist to pass such a referendum. Same story for South Texas.

    Power grabs like this provide a legitimate basis for xenophobia.

    We have the example of Clinton- Kosovo. So, you cannot complain. It is called the right of self determination.
    I live in California and by no means would like that scenario.

    We also have Eltsin - Chechnya. So why complain about Ukraine, when Russia bombed Chechnya much much worse to not give them independency??
