You and me rule by Google?

It seems that everyone everywhere has been ruled by Google nd live under Google. Google really the best search engine at the moment? As we know that, there's still some problems with Google, is there any search engine got to revolute and work better than Google? If there's... how it's it going to be like?

And recently when I was teaching in my IT class to those old folks to use computer and internet, they told me it's hard for them to learn to use Google. Now I am still trying to figure out why...

Well, with so many people targetting Adsense these days, there are a lot of crappy websites on top, which really sucks.

Yea, Google sure is aware of that. Last update sent many spammy/affiliate websites into supplemental results.

It all comes down to the unique content and backlinks of the website. If you've got both (and in bulk), you'll have permanent top positions. Of course you've to work continuously to remain on top.

Google is most used, but search results they return is often irrelevant.
They give too much advantage to authority websites.

it seems not too user-friendly from a search-engine user apart from those making money from Google

It's not down to how user friendly it is and how good the results are, for a webmaster it's all about how many users it has, and google is the daddy in those terms.

I find Google totally relevant - can you share examples of irrelevant results?

If you are looking for something new (but not news), MSN performs better than google, else I think google performs better in all aspects. Some people still use altavista for some tech searches.

That's a great example. I notice MSN and Yahoo does return sites with titles that match the query exactly. I have also noticed that Google, in recent weeks, tries to second-guess what you actually want to search for. In your example, it lists sites telling you HOW and WHAT TO LOOK FOR when getting a used car - not exactly what we want. Google also sometimes returns sites which don't even have the keyword we're looking for - eg "cheap wholesale tshirts bulk incentives" might result in sites having only the keywords "wholesale tshirts" (I'm just making up the example)

Maybe it's because I'm so used to Google searches, but if the first query doesn't give the results I want, I'd simply try another variation of the query, eg "advantages used car" - I tend to omit terms such as why, how, etc in my Google queries. Which makes Google seem slightly less "user-friendly"

Google may be used for quite a bit... at least for the next 3 -4 years, unless something drastic happens.

It was because we are so used to Google searches, somehow we know how can we get the result we want from Google, but too bad we are just one in a million out of this world population... that's why I think there's a need to revolute the search engine to take care of all the users especially those user that completely new to internet and search engine...
