Yet another Adwords Question

I recently bid 10cents per click on a keyword and I'm on the 1st page. There are over 500,000,000 results for the key word. I'm wondering if this could mean its not a popular search term or if its just not popular with adwords.

Sounds like no one is bidding on the keyword. It could also be the sites that do bid on it do not have any money in account for it right now.

This may be a stupid question, but does the number of search results affect my costs per click?

it will be good profit there if you get good conversion. if conversion is low that will explain why it's not popular in adword.

kind of. if there are a lot of people bidding on the word or phrase, then yes, competition for impressions is more fierce. This will increase the CPC becuase everyone is fightng for prime realestate. On the other hand, if its a word that nobody really uses, say a very specific word to a niche market, then no, becuase the competition to get an ad noticed is less of an issue.

is it a specific word to a particular market, or is it just really generic? its possible that nobody bothered to bid on it because it was in fact too general...
