Help yourself and do what he says. We need to see the directory so we can give ideas as to why the PR went down.

We can't just pluck the anwer out of the air without even knowing the site.

    possibilites are two.

    1) being paid directory, one might had reported it to Google.
    2) Might have targetted highly competitive keyword heavily.

That could be the anwer then. Google doesn't like link selling whether it be on normal sites or directories.

Play with fire and you get burnt. Its like a year ago now since Google started taking action against link sellers.

You should have changed your business model, then you wouldn't have been unhappy about losing money...

How can we do that without more information? People on this forum are so vague. "AHH MY PR IS DECREASING! WHY!?!??!?" - As if there is only one sole reason that would ever happen.....

I seriously doubt it, if that had happened you would have a N/A pagerank (a grey bar on google toolbar). I am 99% sure of this. You probrably sold way too many links, therefore lots of the juice you got from reciprocal submissions you lost to your paid listings...

No, it can depend on Google employees changing the toolbar PR, as they have in this case.
