Google did something intresting yesterday and I want to know why Here is what happened I have a site that is a year or so old and have done well in the serps with my niche. It averages 100 or so unique visitors a day. Recently I added a blog and some additional content, the site is currently about 75 pages. The blog was not getting indexed for some reason after about 15 posts over a months time frame, so I opened up my site and worked some on my interlinking and updated my site map etc. no dramatic changes just a few links. I also went out and got about 10 decent incoming links with my target keywords as anchor txt. Yesterday I check my stats and my site has only had 12 viewers!!! and useually by this time I have had 75+. I looked more into who visited and sure enough the google spiders had crawled my site. So i looked at my pages indexed, I had gone from 58 pages index to 7 PAGES INDEXED!!!! Of course I paniced, but decided I would wait and see what happens. Over in the night the Google fairy came back and my site has been re-indexed, my traffic is up and i have raised a little in ranking for my key words. Oh yea and 62 pages have been indexed. but why was I de-indexed for a day?
The same happened to me too. I added too many duplicate articles from article directories to my blog. Suddenly Google de-indexed all pages after I added more duplicate articles. After a while some pages were re-indexed, but not all. Since that time, I do not add more duplicate posts.
Getting de-indexed like that is weird.. I've seen a drop off of sites before for a day.. from a search term only.. Not so much having an entire page no longer indexed. Then, like magic have a it all come back up again. Then again, depending on what time this, this could have been a fluke.. Let me explain fluke a little better. Its like when you go off the face of the earth for a keyword. Your just moving up or down in the index. Something like this, maybe, had to do with PR update, but, that doesn't sound entirely accurate either. But, honestly I have no idea what would cause a de-indexing for a day.
