Its true... when i started here I got like -80 rep for trying to sell a pr8 domain that had 0 backlinks =P total newb
ants are striking back really people talk about this rep too much. It is so obvious if you get red the shut up and say something wise. Go red rep me now
hmm I'd love too, but for some strange reason it says EGS, shawan is really cool why would we do somehting like that?
I totally agree with what your saying, when I first joined I put something in the wrong place on accident and someone red rep me and I didn't know why at all and I think i started a thread asking why.
In my time here, I've noticed the same issue, not necessarily new members getting treated unfairly, but members beating each other up with reputation points for no good reason. This does one of two things: either it has a real impact on the members who get points unfairly, because reputation means something to DP, or it belittles the entire system and makes it meaningless. Either way, it's not good. I received a well-deserved negative rep a few months back for posting bad information. It was accompanied by a detailed explanation of why the member thought I deserved it, and it was signed. The whole thing was very respectful, and I have to believe this is how the system was meant to be used. I'm certain there have been discussions on this, but I have to believe most of the issues would be cleared up if reputation was not anonymous. Many of the arguments against the losing of rep when you give it negatively are quite valid, and I believe taking the anonymity out of the system will end a lot of arguments as well as the need to dock members for dishing it out when it is deserved. We considered turning on reputation at IWDN, on the request of a couple DP members who post there as well. We've studied the DP model for how it is instituted, and every time we think it might be a good idea, something like this comes up and reaffirms that reputation would not serve the community well. Is this the answer for DP too?
Fryman, stop trying to be the centre of attension - coleeen attacked you, which you say you do not care about right, but you have to go overboard and try to turn the tables around (resorting to reverse phsycology)..
I think this thread is long overdue. I wonder how many newbies left shortly after joining because they were on the wrong side of a rep thread...
Great post, Paul. It's nice to see you voicing your opinion on this matter. True. He says I have Tourette's syndrome and exaggerates saying I posted one swear word after the other, which I did not, you can read the first post of this thread as proof. Swear words were placed strategically to emphasize points, all valid and proper. If he can't get it, that's his problem. All feeble attempts to mask the real problem.
I think one of the main problems is that some DP members really don't understand REP ... both red and green ... just like there is unneccessary red rep going around there is also unnecessary green rep flying around aswell.
Collen I think you and I agree on the Utopian dream of DP. However, I think that there will always be the so called Frymans of this forum and members need to deal with them. A forum is just like the real world, nice people and not so nice people. Members need to deal with them. Leaving DP because of a red rep and dumb comment is like saying, "You know what I'll quit my job because my boss called me a jerk." Skinny
