99% of DP just repeat what everybody else says, you know that ;)

and the burden of proof really lies with you doesn't it considering:

    a) the status quo is the opposite to what you say
    b) the massive amount of testing that has been done around the subject to come to the current conclusions.

set up a site, point only nofollow links at it and show me it ranking. it wont even get indexed never mind rank unless you cheat and use a dofollow link or submit it directly.

I have noticed my name showing up as a search term from blog comments for a site where there is no on-page seo for my uncommon name. Of course it is an non-competitive term. The more I commented, the higher the page ranked for my name.

This is conjecture but it does seem to have some sway on rankings. But what is the point if it isn't a searched term?

I have since tried to inject a KW into my sig whenever possible.

Just my 2 cents based on my own observation. I have more important things to do than do a scientific study on the matter and I do feel strongly that it is the best interest of everyone if the seo of nofollow remains devalued.

To clarify that last statement - if it were proven that nofollow had real seo value, we'd see even more link spam. There is enough of it already.

    a hot discussion, huhr? )))
There are always believers and disbelievers, and many SEO "truths" occasionally prove lies.

Anyway, UpL0ad3R, thanks for bringing up an intersting topic and sharing your observations. I suppose your hypothesis would need more proof before it can be taken seriously, so why don't do an experiment - say take a new domain, get it indexed and place only nofollow links for moderate competition keywords. If you see you can get it rank high and get some PR - that would be a good proof! ;-)

That just proves you wrong? Everyone knows that "nofollow" links (despite name) are still crawled - but it doesn't mean anything is passed, or it's used for discovery...

Oh and don't even go down the "you can't prove it wrong". As mentioned, the burdern of proof is on you when you start chucking out what is, unfortunately, mis-information.

Don't you think it's a little arrogant to compare yourself to Galileo?. Oh, also, Galileo wasn't actually killed, he died of natural causes and it was Copernicus who proved the world was round.

The back and forth arguments about how and whether Google follows "nofollow" links could be irrelevant if Google is following someone else that does follow those links. Syndicates from Twitter to the more likely Yahoo (do-ya-think Google might be reading Yahoo's indexes?) may trigger support for a target page. I've been employing the reference link idea for some time. I wonder if it might work on a larger scale too? I imagine it takes little time for Google to check out what Yahoo is doing and indexing.

I wonder about this theory enough to try it out in a few high PR pages.
