Hello... Well yearly is good for the directory owner while permanent is better for the submitter. We try and keep our lists clean of monthly or yearly fees due to when we submit our clients sites we expect not to be billed again for that directory and submitting becomes easier for everyone as we dont have to keep paying for that backlink. thx malcolm
Me for one, that's what adds value to any business is the recurring business. One of payments for review are fine but they are just that, one off. Repeat business is something special.
I openly admit that I have double standards when it comes to this issue. As a person promoting a Website, I won't submit to directories that charge an annual fee (versus lifetime). However, as a directory owner, I charge annual fees. I see annual fees as a double edge sword. It's good for the directory owner and keeps the directory fairly clutter free of too many listings. However, for the person submitting, it's a pain and if you have annual fee listings on a lot of sites and don't keep track of when you will be charged again, it could end up costing you a lot more than the annual fee with your bank.
In some directories, say if you take a yearly featured, after that year if its not renewed it gets dumped completely, unless its altered not to, thing is a lot of directory owners dont realise that with their own directories. By dumped completely i mean it doesn't become a regular listing, its deleted.
Yearly reoccurring and if PR 5 and above make it monthly reoccurring. Who knows if your site will be around in a year and you can make more reoccurring.
That depends on the script used doesn't it? I know with phpLynx when the period is up (say a year) they don't get dumped anywhere else other than the 'pending status' again. Good point you make though.
One of my directories is set to a yearly fee; it gives me the opportunity to remove the links after the year is up. This could be an advantage if a said category was overfilled, also allows me to review submissions again and maybe relocate them to a new category. In truth if the submission is still of high quality I’m unlikely to remove the listing. Another point to remember is nothing last forever, if the directory owner wanted to let the site fold, he or she could do so without offending anyone by letting the links expire. Thanks Brian
to keep it simple, I would list in either if the directory is good, so it really just depends. But of course I prefer life time links. But for directory owners yearly links are better.
Well last year i had a little chat with dargre, and while he was sorting something for me he mentioned this too, so sorted it, yeah its within the script, unless theres any changes within the latest version, but dargre knew/knows of various little things that need modified.
ok thx for the insight... Will have to defiantly take a look at this issue soon as whether they decide to renew yearly contract or not they should still be included and just reduced to regular listing rather then all together deleted. thx malcolm
Same here, i prefer that, them just becoming regular if not renewed, otherwise its a load of lost content from the directories.
