As google dominates the search engine market and msn looks to steal the number 2 spot, what will come of yahoo? In a few years will we all begin to ask, ya who? Sounds very compelling doesn`t it. The thought that the internet`s number 1 website might meet a big crunch is a very interesting one and some may even like the idea. However, I`m afraid it is probably not going to happen. Let us assume the worst. Let us assume that Yahoo is completely beaten in the search engine market, superseded not only by msn, but also Ask, altavista, A9, etc. What will this mean? Well, in truth, it won`t mean much more than minor disappointment for Yahoo! They have so many other services, including their email... Ah yes, email. Isn`t google expanding that way with GMail? Aren`t the number of private email accounts increasing? Oops, looks like yahoo have their market share reduced there too. Okay, no need to worry, they still have their messenger services - but even that is overshadowed by msn messenger! What are Yahoo to do? How will they survice? Poor Yahoo, imminent destruction seems assured In the words of Mr Winner, `Calm down dear, its a commercial.` Well, it`s not actually a commercial but you should calm down, you know why? It`s because i have deliberately taken each of yahoo`s services out of perspective. Yahoo is more than the sum of its parts. People use yahoo search because its convenient to use after they have checked the latest on yahoo news, people look at yahoo news because it`s easy to check while they use `my yahoo`, people use `my yahoo` because its convenient to check their mail from etc. etc. Should i go on? No, i think you have the idea. So, if anyone should ask you, Yawho? Tell them from me, still the number 1 website on the net, that`s who!
okay, I couldn't really make out whats point here after a quick read (its leanthy). Note that Yahoo is lot more than email+ym+search. Check out Yahoo Finance, Yahoo health and many more services of yahoo. MSN and google doesn't even have competing services for it. Just Yahoo finance is biggest traffic puller of yahoo.
Why are new members getting redded so quickly? Jesus doesn't anyone have any patience anymore lol with regard to the post - can you split your posts up into paragraphs cos it's 1am and I'm having problems reading it hehe
Look at his post history it wasn't for this thread...It was for spamming , I am sure Jkomp - Add some carriage returns to these types of posts...Simply cut and pasting makes it very difficult to read: http://www.google.ie/search?q="Let+...tc.+What+will+this+mean?+"&hl=en&lr=&filter=0
Yeah thats my own article site at the top of the list there, i did indeed copy and paste - that was before i sorted out the formatting of articles for my site, sorry.
I really don't think there can be a #1 site on the net... of course one could look ONLY at pure visitors - but there are far too many metrix to consider and the very nature of the internet means people bounce around. #1 is, at best, a temporary thing anyway.
I think msn is going to dominate oh yeah from what people are saying lately that msn is getting more traffic then yahoo.
The only Yahoo! product I use anymore is Yahoo! Finance (simply because it shows up in goog no.1 everytime I look up a ticker.) Yahoo! and it's messenger program need a visual facelift in my opinion.
Not defending anybody but that is not always the case.. What is stupid in one persons eyes is not stupid at all in another persons..The problem with some people in this forum is they give red if they just don't like the post, Or if they do not believe the post.. the point of a forum is for people to express their views.. It just seems that sometimes arounfd here you cannot do that without getting TROLLS redding you for no reason. And if you are a Newbie you usually don't even have a chance.. Just my opinion not saying I am right or wrong.
No they don't, they do great in some areas and poorly in others. They have a huge problem identifying with important segments of the market. Yahoo may be losing ground in search but they're making it up in other areas, mainly through acquisitions to buy user base. Yahoo is pushing very aggresively into the web 2.0 market and will be rewarded for years to come. They've also done some great collaborations lately through APIs.
