YART with a twist.

OK, I know what you're thinking. Why is a YART thread in the Google section, but before you go of dragging this thread to another section please bear(sp?) with me.

When the rep system started everyone had a power of 1, maybe 3 at the max. Acheiving the next level took quite some time. Soon people reached the power of 5 and the next level was reached quicker. Presently the top YARTers can affect your rating by 20+ points and you could achieve a new level almost daily. Eventually a single YARTer will be able to put you at the top level instantly.

Here is where Google comes in. When pr started it took a lot of backlinks to reach pr2. Then with all these pr2 sites pr3 was easy at the next update. Now-a-days we see sites going from pr0 - pr6 in one update. Again, it won't be long till any new site can reach pr10 easily.

Will this be the death of PR or will G have to figure out a new calculation.

    What do you think?

I don't pay attention to PR and no longer have the toolbar installed. My suggestion would be not to either. I think PR has been dying a long time ago.

I was a little concerned when I saw the title of the thread lol.

Basically all Google has to do is extend the bar. Instead of needing 69,743 links for a PR6 they'll just make it 123,562 links for a PR6 and therefor if you haven't gained links then you'll go back down to PR5. I reckon they'll take a fraction of all their indexed pages to determine what the cutoff points are.

That would mean a major PR update!:)

Anyway I don't care either, but the marketing importance of PR is way too big to make Google even think of letting it die leaving nothing. That's even if it means very little, particularly for those that are deep in the business (not me but a lot of you are), it usually means a lot for noobies, that's actually how I learned not look at it too much.

I agree that a new calc would be the easiest way, although they might have to renew it in someway, it's getting old and copied more and more in the fast moving internet world.

    Nice comparison roman1!:)

Shawn can make it harder to increase here, by for example requiring more posts per 'PR'!! And Weirfire, you just got a PR increase, PR 8!! :D:D:D:D

I had always assumed that Google adjusts the PR curve to fit the current state of play - otherwise we would be seeing more and more PR10 sites.

I reckon they do already as well which is why it's important to keep building links even when your site is established.

Yes, they have done that in the last 3 updates and I imagine it will continue.
