I have in server logs traffic from this search engine. What do you think about it, is it one of better, personally i only value yahoo and g but maybe i'm wrong?
Could be as a majority of russians use this search engine and in fact for just somethime the expanded to the the world Russian version: http://www.yandex.ru/ International version: http://www.yandex.com/?ncrnd=1204
Yandex is actually a really good engine that is starting to branch out a bit from it's Russian roots where is it the dominate player (Google is much smaller in Russian). I expect to see more and more from them in the future.
What do you mean by stable? Here is their fact sheet - http://download.yandex.ru/company/2010-07-07-fact_sheet-03.pdf And here is what they say on the site: Yandex today Yandex is Russia’s largest internet company, whose websites attract a workday audience of more than 19 million users (unique visitors as of May 2010) from Russia, Ukraine and other countries. 1. What Yandex Does Give answers Our major goal is to give answers to users’ questions. Questions can be explicit or implicit. Explicit questions are typed right in Yandex’s search box and return answers to users in the form of search results. To answer implicit questions like “what is the weather like todayâ€, “is there anything important going on nowâ€, “can I drive downtown without traffic jams†Yandex offers its users specialized information services. World-class technology Russia is one of the few countries with homegrown world-class internet technologies. Besides Russia, local search engines lead in the US, China, South Korea and the Czech Republic. Among the technologies developed by Yandex, many are pioneers in their niches. Yandex was the first to use Russian language morphology in information search (even before the internet came to Russia) and the first to launch parallel search (simultaneous search in multiple sets of information). Since 2002, clients of the Yandex.Mail service have been protected by Spamooborona – the first Russian internet anti-spam technology implemented in a mass online service, attracting a million-strong audience. The Yandex.News service uses a proprietary fact extraction technology to perform citation search and to form “press-portraitsâ€. Yandex was also the first to introduce a system of text-based advertising in Russia. Mass services To answer users’ questions, Yandex offers services for the mass Russian-speaking audience. Yandex search is the leader in Russia. About 80% of the Runet audience use the Yandex search engine, according to TNS Gallup and comScore. In addition, many other Yandex services hold leading positions in the market. Niche leaders are: Yandex.Market, Yandex.Maps, blog search, the web hosting service Narod.ru, and Yandex.Traffic. The Yandex.Money service, Yandex email, and Yandex.News are among the largest in their respective categories. Aggregate, not produce, content Yandex does not produce content, but creates technology for searching and structuring information that already exists. The Yandex.News service, for instance, does not have an editorial board or a personal opinion; instead, it offers its users the zeitgeist of the day based on news automatically aggregated from thousands of sources. And the Yandex.Market service provides its customers with information on millions of products and services available online without introducing its own notion of what a good or a bad purchase is. 2. Philosophy Services for people Yandex creates services, first and foremost, for the millions of users of the Russian Internet. When developing a service the Yandex team focuses primarily on user characteristics, and only then considers the potential for monetization. The internal rule of thumb is: if a product is good enough and well-liked by people, it will monetize itself. Yandex’s monetization model always takes into account user interests and never gets in the way of the user experience. Yandex has never used advertising that interferes with the functionality offered on any of its services, such as pop-up or pop-under ads. A large majority of the company’s revenues are from text-based advertising directly related user interests. Mirror of the Internet Yandex structures and aggregates user-relevant content that already exists online or offline and delivers it in search results without affecting its characteristics or quality. Pure hosting Some of the features offered by the company are designed to give users an opportunity to store their files and share them on Yandex (websites, photographs, etc). Although users are solely responsible for their content, Yandex reserves the right to determine its policy for hosting user content on its services. Yandex’s user agreement does not allow violation of law and prohibits harmful activities damaging to the online environment (such as spamming or spreading viruses). Limited rights for anonymous content. Publicly available user generated content (UGC) can often be published anonymously, and it may turn out that this content violates the law, infringes a copyright, or commits libel against third parties. In such cases, Yandex is guided by its policy on content published on its pages (i.e. a website on Narod.ru or a video file on Yandex.Video). As soon as the apparently illegal content has been reported, Yandex immediately blocks access to this content (this happens, for example, with instances of child pornography or calls for violence). If content hosted on Yandex’s servers is reported as being of a destructive or offensive nature, but its unlawfulness is not apparent (for instance, content reported as libelous), the owner of this content has two options: either to accept the claim and remove the content, or stop being anonymous, that is, provide their contact information. If the author does neither of these, Yandex blocks this content. Mutually beneficial partnership and non-competition Yandex does not produce original content, but gives answers to users’ questions using content created by its partners. Yandex aggregates and structures content on the basis of non-competitive partner agreements with the owners of this content. The company’s content-aggregating services are based on mutual advantage – Yandex structures information and creates useful services for users, partners get traffic and money. For instance, gathering a wealth of information on products available online, instead of starting an online shop of its own, Yandex redirects interested customers to partner shops. 3. Team The Yandex team counts more than nineteen hundred people in different cities and countries. One of the documents that our new employees read first when they start with the company is “The Charterâ€, which begins with: Peaceful coexistence "Yandex is a very open company. Independent thinking, open exchange of opinions and attention to alternative points of view are strongly encouraged. Being a team player is prerequisite for all Yandex employees. Team means everyone working within the company, not only immediate colleagues. It is us together who make the Yandex loved by web users, respected by partners and clients. People in different departments often see the same problem from different angles – this is exactly what makes Yandex develop successfully. That is why it is important to be tolerant and considerate of others’ opinion. Make an a priori allowance that a conflicting opinion is no less valid than yours." Yandex’s major asset is its team of top notch specialists. Yandex looks out for professionals and assists in their growth by running regular specialist competitions and supporting the School of Data Analysis, founded by the company to offer free tuition for students with the goal to cultivate specialists in data analysis and information extraction from the internet, to conduct fundamental research in this field and to provide talent for Yandex’s applied projects. Yandex is among the largest high-tech companies in Russia in terms of the number of engineers it hires. Currently, Yandex has branches in Russia (Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Ekaterinburg, Novosibirsk), Ukraine (Kiev, Odessa, Simferopol), Tatarstan (Kazan) and in the US (Palo Alto, CA). 4. Infrastructure Yandex's server infrastructure is the largest in Russia. The company has a number of its own data centers interconnected by the company’s own fiber links. To facilitate fast, low-cost internet access for its users, Yandex is developing the Local Network program. The company’s networking equipment is set up in every federal district in Russia. Yandex also has presences at Internet Exchange Points in Frankfurt and in Ukraine. 5. Business Yandex derives most of its revenues from text-based advertising. Yandex.Direct is the first and largest automated, auction-based system for the placement of text-based advertising in Russia. Every day, it delivers ads to more than 19 million users. There are more than 120,000 advertisers on Yandex.Direct. Yandex places advertising on its own websites, and also delivers text-based ads to the thousands of third-party websites that comprise the Yandex Advertising Network (YAN).
Badlands is spot on with his analysis...Yandex is the Russian search engine. They are definitely worth exploring
I haven't heard that search engine and didn't even use it... I see, does they show mostly sites hosted in Russia or most Russian sites?
If you have a lot of traffic from Russia then Yandex is important for you since Yandex is the leading engine in Russia.
it is possible. but, if your site content is english then itsnt worthy i guess. coz it crawls russian text most/
You can do it only in russian version of the yandex website: http://webmaster.yandex.ru/addurl.xml It's not so big problem even if you don't know russian!
Ive used yandex quite a bit, just a note on PPC it took ages to get working because of the language barrier. Turns out you have to get your cards pre-approved before they except credit card payments. Which it doesn't state very clearly on the site.
I get about 5 to 10 hits per month from them and in the keyword logs the words show up as diamonds with question marks in them. I have know way of telling which keywords i am being hit for.
