I do IT work for a company which has its web site hosted by Yahoo. While I've always known that Yahoo runs PHP 4 & MySQL 4 - and I have my own frustrations with that - I just found this page on Melbourne IT's site, the registrar Yahoo uses for its hosted domains: http://www.melbourneit.com.au/cc/web-hosting/enterprise-hosting-unix?lid=rm It has PHP 5, MySQL 5, SSH, and a completely different web hosting package. Does Yahoo utilize any of Melbourne IT's other features, or does Yahoo only use it for domain registration? I'm just wondering, because I want to do things like upload a Drupal site I designed to the Yahoo server, but there are still a few features that Yahoo lacks, like htaccess, that I believe Drupal requires.
Yes, I think Yahoo uses melbourneit for domain registration only. Also, Yahoo hosting provides less feature compare to other hosting providers.
That is why I have my own dedicated server. It works great and I get to pick which versions of software I want installed.
