We advertise on both Adwords and Overture. I am trying to get some input as to whether other people see the same similarities as us. Our overture cost per conversion is 7 times lower than our adwords cost per conversion. Is this something seen in other industries as well? Our customers are normally very b2b focused. The main difference in AdWords is that to get anywhere in the top 10, a company's bid needs to be in the $10/click range. I have a list of 1000+ terms that would require $7+ cpc just to stay competitive, regardless of a website's quality score. For overture, top 5 bids may just barely break $5 for major terms, #1 being around $9. For the lesser terms, bids of $.50 are not uncommon for top 3 possitioning. My main belief in the huge cost difference, is that most of the terms that people would be searching for that would convert at all, would contain the main key phrases that we are targeting. Since AdWords doesn't give priority to specific key phrase bidding like overture (Overture ranks all specific bidding over match type bidding no matter what match bid is), you still have to bid very high for these terms, to be seen. Anyway, let me know what your thoughts or experiences in this area are. We're trying to keep from dropping AdWords completely.
