Yahoo! updates: A Naming Convention is in Order

Discussion in 'Yahoo' started by mcfox, Apr 9, 2005.

I think it's high time Yahoo updates have a naming convention in their own right.

Whenever anyone says, "Florida update", everyone knows this refers to the infamous Google update in late 2004, thanks to Brett Tabke and team at WebmasterWorld who began naming Google updates in the same way as hurricanes.

Try to describe a Yahoo update and it's ... um, the last big one ... in Dec. Or was it Jan?

So, I propose we name Yahoo updates after American presidents, in order of being elected and beginning now, which would make this one the Yahoo "Washington Update".

Anyone else agree? Disagree? Have a better naming convention idea?

I'd have to disagree. There are a limit to the number of presidents.

Now, if you'd open it to dirty politicians in general, I think we'd have an infinite loop.

I agree about the infinite loop of dirty politicians.

I figured that by the time the list was used up, no-one would care about the first time it was used and it could be recycled.

Or it could be Capital cities of the world to make it international, I guess.

Which would make this one the ... Yahoo "Ankara Update" ..?

Us Presidents? Nah. Too US-centric. You guys get enough publicity as it is. How about international lottery names, there´s hundreds of them from the Aussie Superdraw to Euromillions or El Gordo, Primiative, Bono-loto etc.

That would seem more apt anyway. For every lottery drawn there are a handful of happy customers and the rest of us are left out in the cold.

Name them after flop records. You notice them but they make no impact. Same with Yahoo's updates.

I think you may be right, Tops, considering the lack of impact this thread has had. Oh well, it seemed like a good idea at the time. Still does to me, but if no-one else is bothered it won't be happening anyway.

    That gets my vote!

Or, we could do movies. There are enough movies A to Z to last for a while.
"We are currently in the Elektra update." -- see how that would work?

I guess we'd have a problem when we get to G's. Would it be Glitter or Gigli?

or name them after has-been musicians - Then searches for michael jackson would end up at digital point (if it doesn't already due to Anthony's threads. LOL)

The Robert Plant undate would be years down the road.

Name them after DP members :)

The 'AC' update wil be longwinded, repetitive, completely off track ec. :D
The 'Shawn' update is likely to be a work of genius, completely overshadowing anything MSN and Google have done in the last century :D

I think they should be progressive

    Update 1 : yahoo sucks
update 2 : yahoo really sucks
update 3: yahoo really really sucks
    etc etc etc

That way, its easy to count how many updates there as been since its inception :p

How about naming them after porn actresses, 'cause they really suck too? Kinda goes with the word "update" somehow as well ...

We could start at "A"; "Aria Giovanni", "Asia Carrera" (I selflessly hunted through lots of sites for these names), or, just to screw up all the searches for "Jenna Jameson", we call this one the Yahoo "Jenna Jameson Update", or there is the legendary "Traci Lords" and not forgetting the notorious, "Annabel Chong" ~ I think this idea shows promise :D

How many sweaty, one-handed typists, would find themselves reading articles about seo? Hahaha!
