Yahoo's New Site does look good. However, they are still missing links back to the main page from several of their site sectionsl. for example, if you go to the samll business site, you cannot go back to yahoo main page via a link. Hope they will realise this and make changes. Hans
Yes Allan... If you have been following the WMW forum, you would have known that Y! has been rolling out new updates using their "new indexing technologies". This has been happening since early April. The big update on April 21st has been ongoing and on May 11 many sites began to notice a shakeup (more of a mess). And true... yesterday, there was another BIG shake which cause many sites to bounce all over the place. Some have said that Y! is doing a major re-indexing to take advantage of G!'s Big Daddy problems lately. I believe that firstly, Y! has been feverishly spidering pages lately (many webbies report this) to increase their index. Secondly, they have probably lifted a couple of filters which would explain why many sites (which have been banned or out of the serps for some time) have suddenly floated to the top, kicking many once stable sites many pages down. Thirdly, they are tweaking whatever algo they're using because my sites are also personally bouncing from page #1 to page #4! Looking at other similar reports, there doesn't seem to be any tangible pattern right now to determine why some sites are in the top ten. Our best bet is to hang in there, make sure our sites are not contravening Y!'s good site guidelines and (fingers crossed) hope Y! knows what they're doing... Now's a good time to do your site housekeeping (I am doing it now). Might as well... can't make much difference anyway - I'm at page#4 right now (used to be stable at page #1)!!! Cheers... all the best!
I'm seeing some changes, but not widespread. I do see this odd result popping up pretty often: www.searchadnetwork.com/logclick1.cfm?string= followed by a series of numbers. Click on the links and it goes to a normal site, not searchadnetwork. Paid inclusion in the SERPs?
Nobody else notice the changes? On the keywords that I monitor I did not see any changes on May 11. One of the sites I have been putting a lot of work into dropped out of site in yahoo but some others did well. Andrewshim can you point us to the WMW thread?
The first thread discussed the updates which started early April : http://www.webmasterworld.com/forum35/3970.htm The second thread picked kicked off a discussion when a big shake up occured on May 11 (which I believe is just a continuance of the April index update) : http://www.webmasterworld.com/forum35/3996.htm apologies for the links not hyperlinked. apparently, i'm not allowed to post urls yet : new user (sigh!)
My blogs get no Y! traffic but what do you expect their on blogspot and yahoo considers most of those sites spam unless their in their directory. I don't even know where to begin to look through the logs to find whats rankin better or worst on my Yahoo friendly website. I added a new ad to my homepage I hope that doesn't hurt my rankings in the new update.
One of my sites just took over the number 1 spot for the main term I am targeting. Was number 8 to 10 for the past month or so. Hope it stays that way
What are you guys saying about an update? My SERPs seem to be about the same. Did Yahoo mention it in their blog?
I've also just had some crazy changes on my Yahoo SERP's It's all looking very nice at the moment so I'm hoping Yahoo keeps these results for a while.
I have not seen blogspot blogs punished by Yahoo because they are not in their directory. However, I don't have that much experience to draw upon. I have never looked at a blog any differently than a regular domain. It has to be updated on a regular basis with good content and promoted in some way to the outside world. My experience has been that all the major SE's will crawl their competitor’s properties, if allowed by robots.txt, rather than avoiding them. I think they are very interested in finding ideas they might have missed that their competitors may have learned about!
Currently, the top ten in full of directories that point to other sites with good content. There are a couple of sites in the top 10 for my category that are just directories pointing to many other sites (and I'm listed in those directories), but my site is down on page #3!
My site has made big moves in yahoo as well this week. I went from #60 to #11 for photo hosting, from not in the top 100 to #21 for photo ad and from not in the top 100 to #3 for newspaper classified. And, nice moves on all my other keywords, too. Hope it sticks, we'll see. Keeping fingers crossed.
