Bad here My website had 20.000+ pages indexed now it shows 1.700+ pages and what is ridiculous it shows old pages , pages that don't exist anymore on my website for more then 6 months ! This doesn't make any sense .
One of my sites is up about 10 places. Positions are back to where they were in July including a bunch of top 5. I had good traffic and conversions then - should be good again. Woohoo!
A lot of the editing/checking for L-V is manual from what I can tell. I had ads showing on quality pages that were generating revenue, big mistake. It could just be a cooincidence, but Google deindexed 20/25 of this sites' pages. The one site I had L-V on is a PR4 site, all internals PR3. The domain's been around since '02. It very well could have been something else, but I can't think what.
I seem to have faired pretty well in this last index - what types of sites didn't do so well for some people?
My money site only has COOP links pointing to it. I'm pointing about 60k of COOP weight to it. Yahoo is showing around 130,000 links, Google 4,000. Until yesterday no traffic from Yahoo what so ever. Today 400 uniques from Yahoo and nearly all my keywords are ranking from #1 to #5. The main keyword for my product has about 284 million results and for that term we are ranking at #16. With a keyword like that in that industry it's a miracle we are that close to number 1. My secondry keyword is at #2. The conversion rate is 1 to 50 which is really good, much better than adwords. I'm not getting too excited as I realise it could all change tomorrow. How often does Yahoo do an update like this??...or more to the point how long do you think these results will last for ??...
i got all types of sites doing better, using every type of link building I can thinhk of, but have not yet seen any real increase in traffic, hopefully it hasn't propagated everywhere yet
Maybe you need a site that gets very little traffic in the first place before you notice. That particular site gets about 50 uniques a day...constant for about 12 months. Yesterday it received 403......now that I notice If it stays at that I will be quite happy
Not using Co-op on this site. Anyway, I am not overly concerned because Yahoo does seem to be losing some market share. You know it is pathetic when ranking #1 out of 154 million only produces 40 to 50 hits in a month. I have a less popular term ranked at #1 in MSN that gave me over 70 hits in the month.
I am not sure why people use # of search results as popularity for search terms. I have done some searches in google with huge numbers of results yet a number 1 position would yield almost no traffic. Just because a lot of results are returned does not mean it is a highly competitive or searched keyword.
Google adwords and overture say this search term gets tons of searches every month. Ranking #2 for it in Google produces about 600 hits in the month. I think it is a good term to rank for.
I can't complain, I will be breaking 7,000 yahoo hits this month, up from last months high of 700. I think yahoo & msn tend to be geared to a slightly diff demo. People who use their other services. They dont go to yahoo (or msn) to do a search, they are already there for the other features.
Gotta love ranking 3 out of 555 million results for a highly competitive one word term that you don't even actively optimize for. I'll take it though
Fair enough.. I just want the person who called me an idiot to step out and defend the idea that the gross number of search results somehow equates to the competiveness of a keyword in any direct way. Please come out, so I can publicly flog you.
You're absolutely correct, especially if the term is 2-3 words. I just find this update to be laughable, although I'll take it
Iwill take it too. Overall good for me. I have not had much luck with Yahoo to-date. Although I can not say I am seeing much traffic yet from the changes, so we shall see. For those who care look up "die" 456,000,000 pages in Google. 1000 searches a day as per Overture. I mean mortgage only has less than 25% the number of pages but almost 40x the number of hits per day.
Finally! After 6 months of total crap (2-4%), Yahoo just shot up to 20% of total daily referrals. And to think I thought people just stopped using it. (What else could I think?) I guess there are some die-hard yahoooos out there. Don't get me wrong, Please keep coming!
Your not the only one who got called and idiot. Someone dosen't like how we determine if a search term is high competition or not.
a good way to convince people of how to determine popular phrases is to look at a phrase like 'blue carrots' which has >2million results yet no searches as per overture. Number of search results means nothing really.
