Yahoo update 31oct07

Just like every morning I am checking my SERP's through the Keyword Ranking tool here at DP and to my astonishment I found that 90% of my sites lost rankings in Yahoo...

Most rankings have declined from top3 into lower top 10 or even top50 and my previous top10 rankings are now nearing the 100. ALL my hotel related sites lost rankings, while some of my other sites have gained some, but that is from outside top200 into top100.

This leads me to believe that they did on algo update today, but I would like to have some input from you all.

Did you also saw big movements in your Yahoo rankings and if so in what directions?

The last Y! search update was Sept. 26, so I think it's a bit too early for another update. FYI: they always post a blog entry here when they update their search index.

I also got some problem with yahoo search engine. The website had 3000 page indexed in yahoo search engine. Now in site explorer they are showing only 600.
Really amaze with this weird yahoo search engine behavior. Hope it will increase in few days i will let you know

As always... give it time. SERP's can be very volatile in any search engine.

    TFBPA,

from experience Yahoo is less volatile than the two other search engines. Is it an indexing problem?

I noticed very big changes today in yahoo as well, much larger jumps than usual serp fluctuations.

I've also noticed that one of my keywords is in #2 position on first page. Last week it was on #40.

Well this is not good :( I had numerous #1 spots and they dropped to #3 - #5. I don't have a single #1 spot anymore. This is definitely going to decrease some traffic.

This world is getting more complicated for each and every one. Loosing PRs and Search engine is also going the same way!!

Wow, much better search results today. Good quality sites in the top 10, no spam for the phrases I follow. These results look a lot like G SERPs. Nice work Y!.

PS: my sites are doing well ;-)

I have been thinking and trying to determine the cause, but cannot really figure it out.

    1) Devalue of certain lower quality links. But some sites that went up don't have that much authority links either.
    2) Giving more weight to older and more established sites. Overall seems to be true, but still there are a few sites that contradict this or they are only giving more weight to sites older than 3 years.
    3) Giving more weight to "fresh" content websites. Can't really say this is the case for the serp's I'm tracking.
    4) Giving more weight to larger sites. Very possible I would say.

So far I think they are giving more weight to older/established sites AND larger sites. Even more so than Google does.

    What do you think?
