I've seen many posts that comment "we rank high in Google, but not in Yahoo", etc. Could it be that Yahoo feels that in order to be of value, it's results must be different than Google's results? Afterall, why would internet users need Yahoo if their results were very similar to Google's results. It seems logical that to avoid this thought process, Yahoo is trying too hard to make itself have different results than Google. I say "too hard" because Yahoo's results are frequently poor, that is to say, the results they provide are not as relevant as Googles. My focus currently is on website selling lingerie. If you search for "lingerie" in Google you receive entirely different results than Yahoo. The results are so different, that it seems almost obvious that Yahoo is clearly differntiating its results from those of Google. Has anyone seen a clear overlap, that is similar, of results between Google and Yahoo? For "lingerie", Yahoo seems to use human editors to grab the obvious, commercial brand names like Victoria's Secret, Agent Provacateur and Frederick's of Hollywood and place these first. Then, they select the domain name with the precise search term, then list some popular brand names of lingerie, then some less than optimal e-commerce sites. I say less than optimal e-commerce sites because the next few listings offer a limited selection, that is, these sites are not nearly as thorough in their product offering (brands, selection, styles, etc.) as other websites. I'd be very interested to hear from those with Yahoo algorythm (did I spell that correctly?) insights. As well as from those webmasters who have been able to have their websites rank very well on both Google and Yahoo.
I'm affraid that I have been one of those complaining of the vast difference in our results from Google compared with Yahoo. I'm really at a loss as to what we have to do to improve our position and it appears that we're not alone. A lot of our competition on the first few pages of the Google UK search for 'payroll software' don't appear on the first 3 pages of Yahoo UK! We all seem to congregate on the 5th page. The first 3 pages of SERP's show no real pattern, there are a couple of payroll software companies, some re-sellers, some HR sites and plenty of directories. Some of these sites appear not to have targetted any keywords in the copy. Also - I don't know if it's just me - but the results seem more 'spammy'(!?), with non-descript titles, just lots of stuffed keywords in the description. A bit of a mixed bag! I doubt that this has helped you in anyway - but it's good to get these problems off my chest and it would be interesting to hear the opinions of other people!
Yahoo IS different from Google. Our sites have good search term positions on Google and MSN, but they are nowhere to be found on Yahoo. Does anyone have any idea how to get good positions in Yahoo??
I've read posts that have said reduce the KW density for Y! and generate good backlinks. But surely reducing KW density will comprimise the Google and MSN positions??? Obviously you have to strike some sort of balance - what sort of KW density should one aim for when optimizing for Y!(?), if you aim for one at all!!
I think Yahoo changing it approach to Page Ranking I was in first 10 on my key words , now down to 3d tens where there is no traffic !!!! Anybody knows what happanning lately with Yahoo http://www.canadaone.org - you can check my positioning and hiustory, objectively there is no reasons and I did not make any changes recently, but my fierst 10 position was solid like a rock for almost a year
Yahoo went through a recent update. Your canadaone.org site might be penalized. Seems to me your keyword density is pretty high, you have lots of non related content link, pages created specifically for the search engines and not your users and duplicate content..I'm guessing you don't have good visibility in Google? I don't know what your target keywords are but analyze the new top 10 and see what they have going for them.
You absolutly right about my http://www.canadaone.org but right now it is gradually restorring the web positioning as it used to be going from the position of 30 something to the first 20 on the list by the key word "immigration Canada" . as for google I chose different approach at http://www.belevich.ca , see it I am interesting in your opinion as well on it. thank you regards
