I launched a site over a month ago. It's a small site, only 4 pages, but with uncommon search terms, especially the geographic reference. So, theoretically, I shouldn't have a problem getting listed with this geographic reference in the search string. That's what has happened in the past, anyway. Here's what I've done. Follow good form, no spamming, no tricks. I have submitted the site to Yahoo directories, it's one that can be submitted for free since it's not a "commercial" site. I have submitted to the DMOZ under a couple different categories. Here's the problem. The site is not listed at all in Yahoo. If you type in the domain to the search box, it says it was not able to find the site, the site may not exist. It asks you if you want to click on it anyway and takes you to the working site. Google is not ranking my site yet, despite submitting a sitemap.xml, but at least it can be found if you type in the domain. MSN has the site #8 for my search string. Does anyone have any pointers? I checked with my server, and they say the IP is not blacklisted, and that no one else reports of such problems. Should I be concerned?
the yahoo and dmoz submissions take time to get approved....try and get other sites to link to yours...all you need is a couple of solid links to get indexed....
seorant - thanks for the reply. After I posted, I went and looked at some server logs (traffic stats). My personal site links to the new site. The logs show my personal site was visited by Yahoo!Slurp both in January and February. The logs show the new site was NOT visited by Yahoo!Slurp in January or February. Why would it stop before going to the new site?
just continue getting more links....the time they take to index you is out of your hands..getting more backlinks certainly helps
