    Hi,

I have a friend that I'm helping out. He has a site that he wants to move to my server because I'm cheaper then Yahoo.

    Here is the problem.

How do I access his yahoo server so I can get access to his sites files?

Like with hostgator you get access to the server via Cpanel, how do you do this with a Yahoo hosted site? I cannot figure it out.

    Please help!

I don't think they give you access to the site files. It's how they keep you trapped.

I would have to agree, if you just register a domain with them then you are stuck with them if you start from the beginning if you don't have a server to start on and you use theirs.

And watch out for that $35 renewal fee!!
You can log into his YSB account and do the domain manager.
The phone ops do NOT like to give you good information about redirects and the cmos and the relevant info.
They will steer you wrong if they can.

i suggest site scrape using ftp backup and find a mechanized program to install at new host.

I have never dealt with yahoo however here are some basics to try.

I assume this has been tried and does not work
If there is any way to do a home directory back up and (if in use) database backup save them to your pc.
Then simply go to the cpanel backup page and re upload them.

    The alternative would be.

If you have ftp access then download the public_html folder to your pc.
create the account on your server then ftp in and upload the public_html folder you saved.

You will need to manually re establish any email accounts forwarders etc.

If data base is in use then go to the myphpadmin and do an export of the database(s)

You can then re create the empty DB through your cpanel and then import the data back in.

If you have tried these altarnatives my apologies for stating what may be looked on as the obvious. However it may help others that are not sure of tha alternatives available to them no matter which hosting they are using.
