IN more bad news for the USA economy... Yahoo Set to Cut 1,000 Jobs Morning Edition, January 30, 2008 · A day after reporting a 23 percent drop in quarterly profits, Yahoo says it will cut about 1,000 jobs as early as next month. That's about 7 percent of the Internet portal's work, force. The aim is to cut costs and focus on the company's most important business: online advertising.
This isnt bad economy-this is yahoo getting its ASSSS kicked. Google has outsmarted them, and its pathetic how horrible yahoo search/formerly overture has done compared to G...horrible for publishers, clients and the like. So funny how everyone in the know could see the writing on the wall, yet yahoo just went on pluggin away, looking like a big idiot. Now they are hurting..I love how the business world rewards those who do good business, and rips apart those who are MORONS. Payback is a bitch, yahoo-
People rarely use yahoo search engine. People that use yahoo search are the people who are already using some of their services. Like search some related info when we are checking out yahoo mail. If someone is really looking for some info they directly go to google. It is time that yahoo take a look at their search engine more seariously.
And amongst all this we had the "News" (NESW) that MS (Miscrosoft) R 2 (are to) buy Yahoo! HMM Anyone see any/some connections? Would you ever ditto D 2 IT?
There's a post on http://elitetechnews.blogspot.com/2008/01/yahoo-plans-1000-layoffs-sees-growth-as.html that tells you everything about it. I personally believe Yahoo is dieing; http://elitetechnews.blogspot.com/2008/02/microsoft-bids-446b-for-yahoo-targets.html. It's such a shame, the first search engine is now losing, I just hope that Yahoo won't be bought by Microsoft.
Actually anyone knows from which depts they the jobs cut were? From there at leas we can infer which divisions are they hiving off. But normally job cuts is created positively by Wall Street and coupled with Microsoft M&A takeover Yahoo stock price is really going to shot up. Pity those 1000 guys though, not an enjoyable thing to receive a pink slip. But rather than Yahoo dying, wouldn't it be better if Microsoft took over? May have a better chance of surviving with a giant with a big wallet behind them.
Yahoo has better results and a larger market share then Live. Unfortunately for Yahoo, Microsoft has very deep wallets. If Microsoft ends up buying Yahoo, I would suspect the printers would be very busy printing off those pink slips! I don't understand why Live does not just spend $10 billion on its own search engine. They have the money. Apparently the execs of Live don't have enough confidence in their staff. What a pity. I'd sure rather have three independent search engines sending my sites traffic.
Microsoft have the money, but they don't seem to have that vision when it comes to Live, they seemed a bit off track on that, I hope Yahoo can bring them to the right path. It is more of vision rather than money for Microsoft. Hope they retain those Yahoo staff to work out this vision rather than print out those pink slips. Yahoo did have some blunders but they did have some spectacular success and is also a very well known brand.
Oh I guess Yahoo should be a lot more conscious about the internet world... They should be focusing on the effects of their services to the people as well as their rivals...
Yeah, I don't think it has anything to do with US economy. It is happening because they run a lousy company and they are losing money out their ass. They just can't keep up with google...but they won't stop trying. That's not really a bad thing, but they have shown no improvement so far so it kind of seems like a waste of time/money for them either way.
