Sometime ago, meaning about 4 years ago, I had a understanding about how yahoo ranked it's sites. Now, I am having a hard time climbing the pages like before. What am i doing wrong. Does yahoo now give more weight to paid advertisers and sites listed in their directory?
yea, i think you are right on the paid advertising part, maybe if you had yahoo ads on your site that would help alot more, i still cant find a real answer to yahoo's ranks either
Yahoo results are more and more like Googles these days.. do searches and you will see that the top ranking sites within the top 5 are usually very similar. This happened shortly after their little advertising deal.. and the release of BOSS... coincidence?
Actually i wanna tell you fact that i don't give preference to yahoo results but still i cud give you idea about Yahoo Results. From my point of view Yahoo needs Keywords Stuffing in Title, Keywords in Content, anchor text, Links from high ranked sites like forums and directory submission. As i fell because i have seen few sites and few of pages of my sites those follow these criteria and ranking higher in Yahoo............. So try these might be you cud get success.........................
Ranking in search engines I don't know what is happening now a days but prior when i was working for yahoo it's 4 or 5 months before, it was considering back links. The number of back link you get on particular keyword chances are much higher to rank on top with that keywords. and Google shows the result according to page and title optimizations. So if you got approval in yahoo directory then it will definitely effect on your ranking i guess...
Yahoo's results are very similar to google however, it's still easier to rank well in yahoo than it is to rank well in google. One of the main reasons for this is yahoo counts many backlinks that has been depreciated by google.
I don't necessarily believe this. You could be right of course - but I think there's a possibility that Google could count just as many backlinks as Yahoo - but just not tell us. Sure when you do a query to see how many backlinks a site has in Yahoo vs. Google you'll see a vastly larger number. Does that mean Google doesn't know about those inbound links? No. Does it mean they don't count them? No. It just means they aren't reporting it within their search results to a searcher.
I agree with kingofsanda. Google is much more adamant about removing any spam websites from their listings. Yahoo is more slack and lots of spam websites still get decent rankings. So the links from the spammy websites still count in Yahoo. Yahoo also gives weight to your internal linking structure. As a result, a bigger website with good internal linking will rank better on Yahoo than a small website. In the end though, it almost all comes down to links. If you can't get enough quality incoming links, you won't get rankings on either search engine. If you do get enough quality links, you should be able to rank very well on all major search engines.
