Yahoo Search Engine Sucks :)

Yahoo has shamelessly allied itself with Yellow Pages Canada. In an effort to try and keep up with Google they have sold out their principles just for a quick jump in rankings or ratings.

The bitch I have with Yahoo is in order to have a listing on their "Local Listings" you have to do business with Yellow Pages Canada. Well this "sucks" and stinks of big business and laziness all at once. Google will let anyone list on their search engine and this is how search engines should conduct business. It is a shame to see a company the size of Yahoo sell out their principles just for a quick bump in traffic. What really rubs salt into the wound is that I have tried Yellow Pages Canada and paid their outrageous prices and received not enough business to even pay for the ads, what a joke! They promised the world and couldn't deliver!

Anyway after ranting about Yahoo here is a shameless plug for my website www.napoleon.cc/alliston Alliston Home Inspector

Have a great weekend, and don't give any business to Yahoo! boycott the Bastards...I just removed my FireFox Yahoo browser...think they will notice?

I love how people say nobody uses Yahoo when they are still one of the top 3 search engines. That's still a ton of traffic.

As to their move with Yellow Pages, it sounds like it was more about saving money than getting extra traffic. It would take a lot of resources to start accepting local business submissions. It isn't really against their principles though. For years they have been ripping people off with $299 directory submissions despite having very little traffic in their directory. Perhaps it was the only way they could offer local search. Maybe Yellow Pages is also giving Yahoo a cut of each registration they refer.

Yahoo is a misnomer when compared to Google, they do head off in odd ways with their search engines and I for one, no longer use them, its far simpler to let Google do the search and get the info?
Yahoo, in my own opinion are going backwards?????

No one is perfect, Google surely isn't. But as far as search engines are concerned Yahoo is clearly #2 although they are a distant 2nd. I think many people that use their email also use them for searching. As for me, Google is my search engine of choice and the only time I really even look at Yahoo is to see where my website ranks. :)

Yahoo want to earn money in any form, by selling links in thier directories, by movies by betting etc etc. They are focused on money, not the online services. If u provide good services then u can get good money, Yahoo officials must understand this fact.

Exactly! They're trying too hard to earn money when they should focus on improving their services.

At the end of the day, every search engine's first priority is profits. So I'm not surprised.

lets face it, when trying to search for something - we use Google. But when we need to interact and communicate with colleagues, friends and family - most of us - still use Yahoo!

I never use yahoo for searches, its takes a lot longer to find what you want sifting through pages. I'm also glad that I sold my yahoo stock years ago:) . Gmail offers much better spam protection then yahoo mail. I see yahoo as a slowly failing company that should have settled with google offers.

It's becoming more and more obvious to me that some sort of open-source search engine is necessary.
