I heard of this too, Its too bad they didn't accept the offer. We may have seen an actual competitor to Google! Hopefully Microsoft will accept the counter offer at $40 a share

i don't think google will compete to buy yahoo, google is big and has the same product/application as yahoo though yahoo mail/messenger/answer is more popular than google

This looks to be great news for Google shareholders (like myself).

We should see a nice rally for Google on this news when the market opens on Monday.

I don't know about that. I think Yahoo "might" sell if they were offered an over valued price but not much else. Personally, I'd rather see them fold and go bankrupt before being bought out.

Competition is good for any industry so if you take out one of the main competitors then in the long run it might hurt us small folks.

On Monday Yahoo stocks will go back to what they were $19.
They will be forced to sell the company, people have given them enough time to improve.
Well, Microsoft will never pay $40 per share. Maybe $35 but never $40.

Simply put, google will never buy yahoo, and yahoo wil never sell to google. In addition, microsoft also will not buy yahoo for 40 per share, its not an investment that way, its suicide. Yahoo is simply trying to make people look at it and attract attention, thereby becoming somewhat popluar, as google is. It seems to be working to seom extent since we are here wasting our time....

honestly, I don't think Yahoo is in as much trouble as people think they are. They just need to restructure and refocus a bit and they'll be alright. Just because google is beating everyone doesn't mean there isn't room left for others.

I don't know why everyone thinks google has a chance with yahoo, they can't even operate yahoo search engine because it wouldn't pass the regulatory environment. The move on yahoo is just a ploy to get a higher price.

Search is looking like its going to be monopoly field, where as the leader in search because of all the searches done on its site will be able to better adjust search algorithms which will continue to attract more people. I wouldn't be surprised if google market share of search increased from 54% today to around 80% within the next five years.

I hope that at least Yahoo's directory and human selection model for websites continues - nice to have the alternative available to Google's algorithms.
