Ok I have a hard time understanding how yahoo ranks websites My website is nowhere in the first 100 pages (on a given keyword) on ca.yahoo.com yahoo.com my.yahoo.com uk.yahoo.com .... untill I type in fr.yahoo.com (France) where I show up on the 8th position!!! My website is in English (not franch) and my IP isn't in France not even in Europe! Can someone explain that?
Unless all of your backlinks are coming from French sites...otherwise I have no idea how that would happen?!
YES, I thought so too but I have only 1 link from a french site (a strong PR & TR) and many from English websites in canada, south asia, USA... this is really not the point!
Maybe the competition for the term in French is less and that one strong link allowed you to rank that high....I'm not sure but isn't French also an official language in Canada...maybe Yahoo also picked up on this...
Yes it is an official language in Canada (that's whay I tested) but even there I am not well placed at all. We cannot even talk about a "competition in french" because the query is in English and all the websites that are retured are in english.
why you care though yahoo ranking ? i mean they are not returning too much traffic like google usually.
I think understanding the issue with yahoo will help me solve my ranking problems with google that dropped me from 29th to 170th.
Have you ever submitted your site to yahoo? Make sure to also upload a xml site map to yahoo and that will help.
Understanding the issue with Yahoo will not help you with Google because the ranking criteria are completely different
I do not share this opinion. The way I see is simple: since google has managed to dominate the search world by the relevancy of its results, other major search engines are now trying to catch up using an approaching algorithm thus taking into account most of google's criteria. However, they may also choose to be completely different and try to obtain even more relevant results...but I really doubt it.
