Yahoo ranking

I am new to this. I have a website which was ranked #2 on one keyword. Today, I found it is #4. I have not updated the site for 3 months. I am worried that it will drop out of the first page soon. Can anyone tell me how often Yahoo changes the ranking and how they determine the ranking?

 

Keep in mind that algorithms are changing frequently. So changes are natural, but not drastic ones.

There is no "secret" on how to do it. You just need to keep up on the news, suggestions, and testing and trials that otehrs have done and find helping evidence.
Another thing to do is, always analyze your competitors above and below you and watch for changes.

I'm not very adept at this either but one of the things I do is try to make my sites ever-changing because I've noticed that SE bots are very fickle and get bored visiting sites that remain the same day after day after day (if you're married, you can prolly relate ).

Complete redesigns are too much trouble so what I do is change the images and the descriptions that are featured on the index page programatically along with having a timestamp. The timestamp serves another purpose: I can see when the page was cached.

So far, this tactic seems to work. All the bots visit my sites daily and their cache copy is never more than a few days old.

Some of the things to look for about your competition are...

1) bl's, which can be obtained easily here http://www.marketleap.com/publinkpop/default.htm or just type link:www.domainname.com into Google search box. Enter your site and competitors.

2) inurl:=domainname.com. Let's you see how many pages G has in thier index.

3) PR value

To mention a few.

Dont stress. The search engine results pages fluctuate all the time.

 

The funny thing is one of the site ahead of me is a directory which has my site listed on that page.

 

Why does that suprise you that it ranks higher? It's probably got more link popularity.

I tried an unranked site and still saw the same graph.
