yahoo directory no doubt as it's one of the most if not the authoritative (paid) directory on the web.

Because nearly all of the time that i see people asking these questions, especially regarding yahoo, when i ask them they then usually say that they dont have a budget and cant afford to submit, which always leaves me scratching my head as to why they asked in the first place.

    Both directories are good.
Together with Business.com - these three directories are the best paid directories.
    Dirjournal.com is also highly regarded.

It depends on how competitive your market is, if its for finance sites then you will probably always feel that you are aiming for a finish line that you can never reach. :)

Even with a fantastic budget its hard in some competitive areas to stay where you are, google loves to keep shuffling things.

Not really an apples to apples comparison
That's the recurring 1 yr price for Yahoo VS the one-time only fee for Best of the Web. See https://secure.botw.org/secure/submitsite.aspx?categoryid=0

A valid comparison would be Yahoo ann recurring at $300 vs Botw ann recurring at $149.95...
Or... paying Yahoo $300 a yr vs paying Botw about the same fee once.

Not casting aspersions, just keeping the comparison valid. Yahoo is a good resource and a long term player.

Btw, to make the comparison more fun see BOTW Welcomes 2010 with 20% Off.

Are you doing it for the backlink, or for traffic? We really don't get a lot of direct traffic from either one. But we do it anyway for the backlinks. If you're only doing one, do Yahoo this year, then BOTW next year. Track traffic and conversions from each. Or do them both this year, track and only renew if you're getting ROI.

I'm not sure if this is true. However, I've read that if you submit to the Yahoo directory, your organic search results for yahoo will be better. This is why I suggest adding your site to the yahoo directory.

I have my sites on both yahoo directory and BOTW. BOTW may seem a better deal since it's around 300 bucks for a lifetime. yahoo, on the other hand, is 300 dollar a year.

Business.com is also an excellent directory. I have not added my sites there yet and plan on when I have more money...;)
