I have problems with yahoo also.. Does anyone know how to optimize for yahoo? I hope the clue is not 10% keyword density, becuse it is a little high and will probably hurt google serp..
My new strategy is to optimize for Google and just be greatful for little extra traffic that Yahoo gives.
LOL, mine is exactly the opposite! Because the sites I'm working on, are all new, I thought the best thing to do is optimize for Yahoo the first year and after coming out of the box, start tweaking for Google. So far no luck, but am making decent money with MSN!
For my last site I didn't see results on Yahoo for 2 years and when I finally got up their they booted me back down after a few days. They are a difficult bunch.
ZDVolode, Yahoo seems to like the alignment of title, description and content. Make sure there's a connecting logic to all three.
Yahoo seems to like content optimization more than Google. Title, headers, keyword frequency all these contribute to good Y ranking.
With Yahoo I have found pointing as much coop weight as possible using anchor text that contains as many words as possible relating to your site works best. Maximum of 5 words. You have to be creative . I found this out by accident. Over time I have pointed all my weight towards a site and it has risen to the top in yahoo, take the weight away and point it to another site and that site rises and the one the weight has been taken from drops. I have done this enough times now to know it is no coincidence. And these are high profile keywords I am talking about. Thats all I have done, theirs been no playing around optimising the site for any particular search engine. As to the question of traffic from Yahoo, you have to look at it rationally and look at the statistics......it has about 23% of the market, I will take the equivalent of 1 days Google traffic over 2 days any time. Considering the amount of time it takes for Google to maybe rank you in the top 10 (big maybe) Yahoo over time probably sends way more traffic anyway. Yahoo is my bread and butter, Google is just the cream on top. Traffic stats from Nielsen//NetRatings for November. Google 46.3 percent Yahoo 23.4 MSN 11.4 AOL 6.9 Ask Jeeves/MyWay 4.8 Then come the rest with 6.2 percent. EarthLink Dogpile Netscape iWon ETC
