Yahoo on the Heels of Google?

    Say's Donna Bogatin's recent article:

    http://blogs.zdnet.com/micro-markets/?p=1368

"YouTube is a moat, not a revenue generator. By putting YouTube results into Google’s main engine Google ensures it will have better searches than Yahoo and Microsoft (who were, truth be told, getting damn close to matching Google’s quality)."

I'm not sure if Yahoo ever got close to Google search results quality, as Yahoo tended to fluctuate between favoring established businesses to informational or educational sites to a mix of garbage sites. In my opinion, Yahoo relies too much on third party databases for their search results.

That article is total BS. Yahoo! (and MSN especially) never got close to touching Google. What a load of crap....

Thanks for pointing that out, though. I'll be sure to skeptically read anything else I see that is written by Donna.

The problem is Yahoo and MSN have is that they're trying to get market share from Google. To do that, they actually have to be better than what Google can deliver in terms of results. That's exactly what Google did to win people over several years ago - they provided results far better than anyone else.

You can't beat you competition just by being as good as them.

I do agree that Yahoo! and MSN are starting to get closer to Google in terms of organic search quality for competitive terms. I was do an analysis last week and found that the top sites in Google are usually the top sites in MSN and Yahoo too.

For finding more obscure info, however, Google is still the undisputed champion.

In case you don't know, Yahoo uses spiders to crawl websites to add to its index - Yahoo! Slurp; http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/ysearch/slurp

    May help to read that.

Google is the best for searching information. But I always find myself using Live search when looking for images...

I think the Yahoo Search Engine is pretty good. It will never be as good as Google, but it's getting close! I do use the Yahoo Search for videos though.

Pfft... In my opinion nothings ever going to get close to Google. Well, the quality of the search engines themselves may improve to that of Google's but in terms of popularity, Google's still top.

Google uses a flawed pageranking system. Where spam sites can get on top, while real sites get screwed. Yahoo don't do that, which is why yahoo has better search results. I respect yahoo alot more then i do google.

Yahoo will b eon top again.
