A mega partnership between Yahoo and Microsoft, nearly a year and a half in the making, may finally be nearing reality.
read through somewhere but cant remember. Perhaps you can go through news.google.com and check it out.
It's true! I was reading it earlier myself. You can find it at http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/5415d954-7301-11de-ad98-00144feabdc0.html for info.
While it may benefit both companies to partner with one another, I do believe that they would really have to put in some heavy work to overcome Google. The big G has a hold on so much of the internet. And, although I think other search engines are far more reliable in terms of delivering accurate results then Google, the fact of the matter is that they are the most widely used. Perhaps Microsoft and Yahoo should consider offering more incentives and better incentives to attract people to them.
Hi ... the article, about MS and Yahoo, is an especially good analysis, for such a brief space. If MS and Yahoo find a way to partner, the result is control of about 1/3 of the search engine industry. Google has about 65%, of the industry activity, but that's against one major and ineffectual competitor, Yahoo, and a great many small or tiny competitors. Given MS brings substantial vertical and horizontal integration to the table, not to mention more than a generation of increasingly solid management experience, the search engine playing field might well tip away from google. The tilt away from google won't be huge, maybe 15% over 5 years, but it starts the chipping process. As google hasn't shown especially strong management, yet, it's its own worst enemy, for the moment. Success when there's no meaningful competition is not an indicator of strong management.
SO now it takes Yahoo and Microsoft to defeat the giant Google? I heard Google will soon launch its first OS in near future.. The next few years will be the wars of the giants in the internet which would be interesting to see...
I don't think it's about challenging google. They would be mad to think that they could, but as mentioned in the article, it would save them a lot of money and "a penny saved is a penny earned". They would be able to recuperate enough market share with the combined knowledge of both companies. I agree with you Luke, it is certainly not looking like a good deal for yahoo. Let's hope they get more out of it than a few million dollars and even smaller regular payments. imo, this deal will go ahead; there has been too many man hours and money invested in this deal so far just to let it go sour. With Qi Lu now on board with microsoft the relationship between the two companies can only sweeten. There just needs to be a bit of lee-way from both parties otherwise it'll be stalemate still when google has released its operating system and has gained even more market share.
Who knows.. 2 Giant is cooperation now...Perhaps will come out a totally new search engine and much more powerful than ever...
I think the wall street journal is reporting it also, yahoo board is meeting this weekend to discuss the deal
