If i was to pay to be listed in Yahoo's directory, how do i optimize the features by which my site is found in the Yahoo search engine? or are these things completely different?

I wasn't aware you could change your info after submitting it. I know after a couple weeks you can ask them to put your link in a different folder, but am not so sure about changing your link title/description. I bought a link there almost a year ago so hopefully some things have changed.

They are different, but a Yahoo directory listing will positively affect your search position.

Will a Yahoo listing help only with Yahoo search, or Google and the rest as well?

Google recommend you get sites listed in yahoo and dmoz, if I remember right, so I assume it helps.

In any case a listing in yahoo gives your site several links (including regional yahoo directories) from an authority site, so that should also help.

I'm not aware of any direct connection that we can affect between a listing in the directory and position in yahoo search - although I'm sure a listing must generally improve your position a bit.

yahoo ,business and dmoz are all strong directories , listing in them has a positive effect but not worth $300

Hm, Are there other manually edited high-value directories besides Yahoo and DMOZ?

I have heard from many people that having a listing in yahoo directory will not get you very much
traffic, personally I think it is overpriced.

Pisses me off to have to pay $299 every year but I might do it just to prove the point. My website is 5 years old and has never been in the Yahoo directory. My Yahoo search results are bad. My site does very well in Google. I think Yahoo & Google are splitting the $$$!
