I was super surprised today when my under construction site suddenly got a great no of hits from yahoo. Guess what? I am ranked no 1 for my term from 9.3 million pages! Yes, the term is on my domain name but the thing is - i have no content whatsoever, except the initial mambo content!! Crazy yahoo! It proves my theory that yahoo is crazy. I used to rant here about my high quality site being dropped from yahoo ranks, and replaced by SPAM sites. Now, my under construction site is replacing quality sites . My goodness..what's happening to yahoo? ( Sorry, won't disclose the keyword ..)
Great! Now my avatar worth more! I have yet to hear what happens when you place YPN ads on dumped sites? btw iskandar, is there any links pointing to your site ?
1. Yahoo is a beast, I can say the same story about a website I have. I think it focuses on the domain part and gives that a huge factor in ranking. 2. Thanks for the fact in your signature. I am not sure what to think or how to respond to this
Not that i am aware of. I have not submitted it anywhere because there's zero content (i'm not sure if mambo picks up any new mambo site automagically) It shows that one man, theoretically can produce weapon of mass destruction ..hehe I think yahoo put a great concern on keyword on your domain name.. and it stupidly picks up the site although there's zero content .. Bugger yahoo! now i have problem creating my site. have to make it offline and start creating content - fast!
Domain name is 2 weeks old. Theme is related to children and it has never been exposed to anybody but me (site has no content ..). Again, I think the keyword on the domain name is a very very powerful thing for yahoo .. It's now a burden to me. It's great to be ranked no 1 but when there's no content .. it becomes a great burden. (Sigh!) --------- My apology for not giving out the domain name. Reason? Anyone can register a domain name that contains a variation of the same keyword and create content fast... btw - it's a niche one. So, I'm sorry to a few ppl who pm ed me and asked about the name All i want to say is it's separate by dash like this: www.keyword-keyword2.com ( like www.fast-money.com) and the site is ranked no 1 for the term fast money although the site has no content whatsoever.
It has happened with a number of sites in the past, yahoo does rank a domain name very fast, most of the times NO.1 for the domain part. Yahoo does provides lot of weightage to the domain. Many scrap and adsense sites have started taking advantage of this loop hole by yahoo.
Now this is really suprising, congratulations iskandar. share the url to your domain in PM, to really confirm this
ahaks! thanks for the congratulation .. my apology..can't do that. the reason is as above. BTW, i do not expect the no 1 rank to lasts long ..
will do. I expect the no 1 rank to lasts only 1 mth the most. -- update : this sucks! i have a few hundred visitors already and all i can put on the mainpage is webste under construction. -- yeah! i know some will say - put adsense there!
Just notice slurp 2 days ago and saw one link from the outside world - from whois.sc . Someone put my domain name in the list of domain to be monitored. How deep ? From awstat Hits 1+1 Bandwith 11.50 KB Shame on yahoo ..
Yahoo is just crazy - can't get my high-quality sites to rank well at all, but the ones I don't even try on do better. Oddness.
Lol Yahoo IS nuts Lets wait and see what happen. I once had a site where yahoo was hitting same non-existing 404-generating pages over and over again for months and months...
This thread is very good insight into Yahoo's sillyness. You have given me an idea. Thanks and keep us posted!
It does sound pretty silly on Yahoos part. I do have to agree you may not be ranked #1 long I would be working like crazy on that site if I were you but I am sure as soon as you get things looking pretty good, the site will be dropped and no where to be found. Try to get a newsletter or atleast some sort of mailing list so you can have a way to reach the visitors that are coming in now. Let us know what happens and good luck! E'Lisa
I think that if you avoid all the things against Google's policy guidlines, you should be able to maintain a good rank in Yahoo.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I think Yahoo is very paranoid about frequent content changes. MSN doesn't care. Google is somewhere in between.
