Thank you so much for Great Informative article.
    Excellent news.
Nowdays every search engine has stopped considering Keywords Meta Tag. Few days back Google has officially announced it and now Yahoo News.
SEO is going more and more challenging as number of SEOs and there knowledge is increasing day by day, and Search Engines are also changing there algorithms to make it more compact.
    Thanks Dan for great Information.

Google didn't "just announce it" a few days back. They never used it, and constantly have to remind people of that fact. What you're thinking of is really Google's latest reminder.

Though it is not essential, we still use the meta keyword tag, since it is a good practice, and does not take much time.

    Google never used it.

    Google never used it.

How is it good practise? I think there is no point of it now that Yahoo doesn't use it either.

It may be a new announcement, but I think they stopped using it a long time ago.

So basically they are slowly taking off the on-the-page optimization method. They are more concentrating on off the page optimization, right?

The keyword meta has been well nigh useless for SEO for a long, long time.

It can still be useful for custom apps (i.e. a site search function).

No. They're merely standardizing their use of the META tag with how the other search engines operate.

Doesn't matter most people doing SEO quit using it a long time back.

The more important thing you have to ask yourself if you are doing SEO is this:

"Do I trust the PR Machines of the Search Engines to tell the Truth?"

It is simply not in the interest of any Search Engine to tell you anything more than general guidelines.

And your point is? I didn't start this thread because I use the META keyword tag for "SEO purposes". I started it so others could find out that Yahoo! no longer uses it and can tell others on this forum accordingly.

And yes, I do trust the search engines. I'm not out to manipulate them (unlike some people) -- they're just another type of Web site user to me.

I wonder if MSN/BING uses the keyword tag. Not that the keyword tag held much value for the last few years anyway...Using the tag wont hurt anymore than not using it, so I choose to use it to be on the safe side.
