Yahoo Is Lame...

Yahoo has got to be the lamest search engine. My legit sites don't rank in Yahoo worth a damn, but I just found out that this site: http://www.rhinestonegems.com (which is mine). Ranks #5 in Yahoo for "rhinestone jewelry". Seems kind of silly to me...

Yahoo seems to me to rely a little more on "on page factors" especially the title tag than G. - Haven't looked into it too much, but thats the impression I get.

Yahoo is not lame VS, they just do not deliver as many referrals to us as Google, their SERP's are fine and in fact more fair than Google's (more honest). I have seen referrals from Yahoo and MSN pick up in recent weeks, so be careful not to be too mean to them.

They are not the fastest gun in the west as far as crawling and delivering current content as fast as Google, but they will get there and Google has a competitor on their hands in Yahoo that is not going to go away any time soon.

I would not discount them as much as you seem to be doing at this point.

I felt the same way 2 weeks ago, but since then we have been receiving a lot of traffic from them and MSN. I kinda like those guys a little more now. :)

I think a combo of BL's and on page like this works well...

content about h1 term

kw 2

content about k2 term

I've thought that ever since they appeared. I can't stand yahoo or any of the services they offer. They think that being a portal is more important than being a search engine. They have no customer support and just really don't give a damn whether or not you use their offerings. They don't care and it shows. I would not be upset in any way if yahoo just disapeared. They suck.

[can you tell I hate yahoo?]

Well, I haven't yet been offered a gmail account, so until then, there's one yahoo service I continue to use. :)

The company that provides my tracking/stats package released some figures based on their network data and for the periods of October and December they noted that, overall, Yahoo's referral figures rose from 15.02% to 17.21%

Personally I've seen things different on one site having just 3% from Yahoo, so in this case yes Yahoo=a bit lame, but another completely different site showing 17% from Yahoo - which is OK by me :)

Sorry to let you guys know this, but since last June, 2004, Yahoo has not used Google's search index.

Do we have any believers brothers and sisters :) Please make sure you are in church on time and your kids are well dressed please and in their seats for services.

Do you still believe that Yahoo is using Google's SERP's faithful

PS: Yahoo is gaining on Google, see link below.

Yahoo has consistantly delivered better SERPs to any on page factors I optimize. I know it may seem silly to have a place holder get good results, but look at your competition for the word and how optimized they are compared to your one page that seems very optimized. Yahoo needs a different approach to SERPs than google and it appears they're taking the "it's not ALL about links" approach.

Yahoo is actually #1 on one of my sites for SE referrals.

    Yahoo 1140 44 %
    Google 1130 43 %
    MSN 216 8.3 %

And it's for pages that have lots of words on the page + high keyword saturation.
see "How to Copy a DVD" -
and "free ipod" + "free ipod guide"

So to me it looks like Yahoo takes a little longer to get to the top of their SERPs compared to Google, but I find better success on Yahoo with pages that have more text and keyword to text ratios (saturation).

But another site of mine shows this for SE referrals:
    Google 64.7 %
    Yahoo 19.6 %
    MSN 6.8 %

But this site has less text per page than the pages I pointed out above.

Yes, SGH is right about Yahoo. I've noticed the same things as well. I wouldn't say that their results are bad or not relevent. I just think that if you have pages with more information in them with a higher keyword density that you will do better in rankings. They do weigh on links too, so their algo isn't just KW Density.
