Yahoo Hosting Windows Based?

    I have a small business hosting account with Yahoo. The "Manage my services" back office is straight forward and efficient in my opinion. My question: Is this hosting Windows based? There is no cpanel. They have a script to install Wordpress but the information I have on Installing and maintaining Wordpress blogs refers to cpanel and UNIX/LINUX file rights.

    I am assuming the hosting is Windows based (no cpanel...). Does anyone have experience with Wordpress blogs using Yahoo hosting? I am trying to determine if I should pursue using the Yahoo Wordpress implementation or open a new UNIX/LINUX hosting account. Any known pitfalls or helpfull advice?

    If they have a script or means of using Wordpress with your current hosting plan...you might as well give a try first. If it gives you problems or becomes a hassle then just switch to a linux account. :)

    I already have the account with Yahoo so it won't cost me anything, it's just that the books, ebooks... that I have on Wordpress & Blogging all refer to using cpanel and I am not sure if it will directly translate to a Windows based host. I don't have much free time to play around - that's why I am looking for others experience with Wordpress on Yahoo hosting. Thanks.

    It's not because you don't have cpanel that you are not hosted on a linux server. Cpanel is one of the many admin panels you can run on a linux webserver. Cpanel is probably the most popular. Do a search on google to find what people say about yahoo wordpress hosting. I have read that it is a limited wordpress install ...

    Generally the linux based account is cheap and equally good when compared to the windows based account :)

    I thought Yahoo hosting was linux based since it is cheaper. Windows is just the operating system, cPanel should be able to install on the server.

    I came about this researching PHPList to see if it would work on a Yahoo hosted website. This answers definatively that Yahoo is UNIX - Not Windows based. Straight from Yahoo support:

    * GNU / Linux Server --> Yahoo! Servers are Free BSD based Unix server
    * Apache Webserver --> Apache version 1.3.33
    * PHP version 4.3.x (or higher) --> Yahoo! supports PHP Version 4.3.11
    * Mysql database server --> Yahoo! supports MySQL 4.1.12 with
    phpMyAdmin
    2.6.3 for managing the MySQL database
    * "safe mode" --> "safe mode" in PHP is off at Yahoo! server
