Does anyone know if putting links into yahoo groups is counted as bank links? or has any beenfit at all?

I am not talking about spamming the groups I am talking about adding relevant links into relevant groups?

If it gives you relevent traffic why not. I am not sure if it counts as backlinks, if the groups are public and dont need login it meaning a bot can crawl them then why not.

Putting links in Yahoo groups is definitely counted as Backlinks - Provided the group has Public Archives

Giving links in High PR groups can do wonders to your PR. There are many Yahoo groups whose inner pages have PR3. Think of it this way...if you get 1000 links from such groups you have 1000 PR3 links.

If you want to post by email. the anchor text will only show if the group allows attachments. To use anchor text in those groups which do not allow attachments, you have to go to the group and post directly and use the text editor.

MSN hardly indexes any Yahoo groups and these links wont affect your MSN rankings much.

Dont get excited and start spamming Yahoo groups. Google is very alert about the way links are created... your site may get banned if Google detects spam links.

I've considered this as well, I have tried to get some to link to me in the top half part. Unfortunately many groups were made years ago and their owners have moved on.

It definately counts as a backlink if you add the link on the groups homepage. You will only be able to do that if you own the group obviously.

Whats more a "public" group automatically creates rss feeds of the all messages, just like a blog, so yahoo groups are extreme search engine friendly.

But for the group to have weight you need to make it active and post there regularly.

It surely is a good way to get backlinks, plus you can get traffic directly from yahoo groups as well.

Yahoo groups for me is sort of a mix between a newsletter and a blog, great tool if used wisely and not abused.
