I work for an organization at the moment and think maybe i can get some people to join a yahoo group if i created one. Is it worth spending some time updating the content on a regular basis in the group for the product awareness, SEO, and email list i could potentially generate?
It sounds like a lot of work to create and maintain a new group, but the people who joined would probably be more "dedicated" or "loyal" than other visitors. I'm not sure how many people would ultimately be attracted to it; the downside is you're limiting your reach to Yahoo users only. It's hard to say whether it would be worth the effort at the end of the day.
yeah i have the same idea but i think its against the yahoo tos to make money through its free services
Yahoo Groups was killed by spamming jackasses, just like Myspace was. I had to drop out of the one group I was a member of, because I was getting over 20 spam messages a day.
Yahoo Groups is the best deal. You have total control. Just remember to look out for spammers and make its a registered users post only group.
I have used just one good Yahoo group with good PR that has gained me several places within the top search engines like Yah**, being second for my total traffic. They are worthwhile and will help you probably start or definitely continue a solid site ranking well on G**gle. I actually gained 20 positions in a week because of the group and with only a few more links I have been able to secure #1 ranks for most of my keywords.
It's a little over the top, but someone wrote an article on how spam affects the internet, that I think describes Yahoo Groups, and Google Groups, too. ( It's not my blog, by the way. )
