Yahoo directory supposedly has a free submission option, has anybody ever got their site listed free?

We all moan about Dmoz but my big gripe is with Yahoo

It does get listed but is absolutely without a doubt has to be non profit, and from what I have heard they take ages as well just like DMOZ

Not sure if that was supposed to be understandable or not?

Anyway, yes, you can get a free listing at Yahoo. But, it is only available for submissions to certain categories, and only 'personal' or 'non-profit' sites will be listed. And, in case you need to ask, MFA/affiliate sites won't get a free listing.

I've tried submitting with a few sites and haven't seen a free listing out of them yet. Although I bought a Yahoo-listed domain which has been listed in the directory for the last 6 years and I've not paid once :)

My personal site is listed in Yahoo! directory for almost two years now and it was included on free submission.

Yahoo listings are good if you're looking for PageRank. My Yahoo directory-listed site gets on average 2 U.V from Yahoo Directory a month. So not worth the $299 unless you get a free listing:)

I just checked, it still says $299.

Do the following web search : dmoz corruption
You will have plenty of reading

If its the free listing, nothing wrong with you trying to get in that way, but I would no pay to list with yahoo, not for $299. Think of all the high PR sites you can buy links on with that money

I always thought getting listed in the yahoo directory would guarantee a large amount of traffic?

Evidently not. Bearing in mind that it is rumoured that a Yahoo directory listing will help you rank better in Yahoo's search engine - I'm not going into the minor details of that, as everyone has their own opinion of the benefits (and possibly disadvantages) of having your site in the Yahoo directory.
