Yahoo! Directory

    Hi Guys

We're about four months post launch for a niche dating site and obviously we're building content and inbound links as fast as we can. Is it worth spending $299 on a listing in the Yahoo Directory? The page that we would actually appear on only has PR3 - but is it still recommended as it's Yahoo?

    All feedback gratefully received...

worthless it will not give you any search ranking so whats the point infact you can spend that money in adwods and other link building program that will automatically list you in yahoo directory

Right: adwords will get you listed in yahoo directory - so not true.

Dating is a competitive niche, succeeding in that niche means investing in promotion, and seo, and links. The yahoo directory is certainly a good place to start, IMO.

I was in the same dilemma recently we I started doing submissions. Many fellow dp member said its not worthy etc etc. From my experience this what I found. Your natural traffic from Yahoo will jump a lot. From google it will pick a little. As per as the ranking when you get listed on yahoo directory google sees your site like it is trustworthy. I heard google recommends to submit your site on yahoo directory.

You can submit on these free directories also: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=315153

I also suggest you submit to 10 total PR 6-8 directories, that way you will get a good ranking. And your site will have good amount of organic traffic hopefully.

Your dating niche is very very competitive. You have to represent yourself someway people comes back for something. You can start with some pages with some articles like:
    - Secrets of dating
    - What to do when you go for a dating
    etc etc
And don't forget to submit them to at least 20 PR5+ article directories.

    Good luck to your site.

You can place an ad for your site on the services section my site also free http://www.webcosmo.com

I say no, don't spend that money. Better get some quality permanent links from websites of your niche and stick to that until the next PR update, see what happens and progress from there.

THAT is well worth it.. One yahoo Directory link is better than 2 other PR 7 links and two other Authority PR7 Links will cost you about as much...

if you are spending that much, spend on BOTW also

if you've budgeted for it, it may well be worth it.

Yahoo directory listed sites tend to do very well in the search engines

However, a few links is not enough, you really should submit to as many directories and relevant sites as you can

In my opinion I would not spend the $299 to be listed in Yahoo unless you have lots of money to spare.

Instead I would spend the same amount of money and get listed in 5 - 10 other very good pr6 - pr7 directories.

    I say this because :

    - A Yahoo directory listing wont get you many, if any direct visits to your site from the directory. I dont think many people use the directory for searching for sites, plus they list sites in tehir categories with the most popular sites first. If your site is new, it will be on the last page for your category.

    - Most yahoo categories dont have a very high pagerank, so page rank wont be passed to your site.

    - The free payable is yearly, where there are lots of other directories that are permanent.

So I would only hpay for a listing if I had lots of money to spend, but in the end its your decision, good luck.

Yahoo directory is not for direct traffic actually. When your site gets approved on there other search engines see your site as a evaluated trustworthy site. And eventually your organic traffic increases. Same happened to me. I submitted for mu site http://www.webcosmo.com at yahoo dir. I have had more organic traffic from google then I had before in just one and half month.
submitting to pr 6-7 dir. is a good option too. You may achieve almost same results.

Yahoo is always good to get listed at regardless. They have content on their pages and are found by others looking for what you will be marketing.

Anyhow, we have several dating sites you may wish to buy links on as a package.

See the UK Links Directory below.
