For Off Page SEO is it worth paying 299 dollars to submit a link?

They claim that they don't take on commercial sites without the payment, has anyone had any luck with sneaking a link in for free.

Spending $299 for one link is only worth if you are a big brand and that money doesn't mean a thing to you. One single link from yahoo won't make enough difference to rank in the top 10 on it's own. Keep that money in your pocket or invest it in great content...

The website has 60,000 dollars a week turnover and I try to make the SEO to perfection, so I think I will just go ahead.

Gone were the Yahoo Directory's days. Now DMOZ rules the roost. I would prefer you not to pay

Oh for heavens sake - yeah - some free directory with PR0 is better </sarcasm tags>
if you've got the budget - then yes it's worth it - a high PR link from a source that Google (and Yahoo) trust
    - and yes dmoz is good as well - but you won't get a commercial site in dmoz - it just ain't going to happen.

Of course you can get a commercial site in DMOZ - I've done this before and I've seen plenty of people do this recently. What makes you think the opposite? It may well take several months or longer to get into DMOZ but it's worth making a submission.

To the OP, if your site is making that much money then add it to the Yahoo directory. Try to get work a good keyword or keyword phrase into the anchor text - I've seen this done before and Yahoo has accepted the entry.

If you have funds for marketing purpose then you should definitely try yahoo. and don't waste your time trying to find ways to fool yahoo that you site is non-profit or charity site.

If you don't have funds or limited, then you better go with other paid directories.

Yep, $299 is not going to dent your pocket if you're making $60000 in week.

$299 for just one link is too much.. If you have such kind of budget, then just spend it to other quality directories by availing of their featured listing service.. You can have lots of quality backlinks with such amount.. Spending it for just one link is impractical.. :)

I have never paid for a Y dir listing. I find little to suppor that there is $300 of value in it.

I have done free submissions, which one can do even in paid cats. How? Try this.

You have to pay. It is one of better ranked directories (and recognized by Google) and a must if your competitors are listed. DMOZ is impossible to get into. Been waiting for over 2 years with them.
