Hi, I am considering submitting my website to yahoo directory but not sure if it's worth it. I know it's debatable if yahoo submission is worthwhile because of the price ($299 is a lot of money for some webmasters). As you all know there're many web directories on the internet that take DMOZ listings (more than 100). How about Yahoo??? Are there websites that use yahoo directory's feeds? If there were 100 websites that used yahoo feeds than I would get 100 links thus $299 a year is not a lot, as it would be only $2.99 a year per link (which is very cheap nowadays). So does anybody know if it's possible to find out who uses yahoo directory's listings? Thanks
Here are some search results on the topic "is yahoo directory worth it" click here and you will find every possible opinion on if Yahoo is worth it or not in dozens of threads. The bottom line though it basically this - If you have the money to do it then it does help. Almost any business with a marketing budget is listed there. Usually the ones to ask are the ones that don't have the budget. I do not know of any feeds that Yahoo provides for others to publish their listings as dmoz does. Hope this helps.
Will the investment for getting into yahoo pay for itself? thats one way of looking at it, i haven't looked into the types of sites that yahoo accept. For example do they allow ecommerce? if they do and you could make that $300 back in a day, week, month or whatever then yeah, why not invest. Its like anything, what do you expect from the investment, does it may sense to get listed in any particular directory or website, would $300 on PPC be better for you instead, a better return maybe. All you need to do is figure out what you expect from the investment, remembering that your expectations and what you actually get can differ greatly at times. Can you afford it even? not a personal question, but really can you afford that outlay with no guarantees for you.
You can only submit for free, if you're listed depends upon the editor, which is the same as paid. To the OP, look at your budget, probably most who submit to yahoo are established businesses who know they can afford that level of expenditure. I would want to be receiving a substantial monthly income before I committed to that sort of outlay.
I think your $299 might be better spent. Check out this list of good value directories. It compares PR and Alexa traffic to price. If you do a little homework you'll probably find some directories that will get you both traffic and link juice.
