Yahoo Directory will give you very few direct visitors if any. Who still browses directories when you can do a search for keywords instead? Most people who are still paying $299 to submit to the Yahoo directory are doing this for seo benefits. It is nearly impossible to know the exact benefit though. You would have to leave your website completely static without getting any new links. Then you'd have to sit back and wait weeks or months before the search engines give you the full value for that link. It is not worthwhile for every website or every industry. Check which of your competitors are listed there. Do they have better search rankings than you? If so, it is probably worthwhile copying some of their linking strategy. If the $299 is a lot of money for you, it might not be worth it. You need quality links to rank well for most keywords. It's up to you if a Yahoo directory listing is one of your quality links. You may be able to find better links for less money.
Use free Yahoo directory submission. It takes minutes, and if you have good site, you have chances to be accepted.
Take the suggestion of one who have submitted his site to yahoo directory. If you have product selling website and looking for visitors who wants to buy then yahoo directory is best option.
In my opinion, save the $299, you can get in through Yahoo Canada for free and fairly fast as well ambitic
I submit my sites to the free Yahoo search engine. So far they have always been on the first page, usually the first SERP. For many keywords first placement on the first page of Yahoo will return more traffic than 5th or 6th SERP on Google. Considering how easy it is to do I would pursue it. For sure Yahoo Directory is a nice link to have just as any high PR directory would be. $300 per year is a lot for some clients to pay, and very little for others. I would base my decision to use it on that criterion, that and possibly the ego needs of the client
I just commented about this in another section here on DP. In some of the biggest and best DP posts of all-time, submitting to the Yahoo Directory is strongly recommended. Google itself actually RECCOMMENDS that you submit your site to Yahoo for the $299. If Google is suggesting this, that means they will boost the sites that are listed. Its almost unbelieveable how many people here on DP say that it is a waste of money! Personally, for almost every site that I have, I submit to Yahoo Directory. You will get zero traffic from the listing itself. But your authority and pagerank will benefit more that any other SEO technique out there. Your site/blog should climb 2 or 3 PR spots, almost overnight. When people say they don't reccomend it, they are going up against the advice of Google! If I want high rankings in Google...whose advice do you think that I should take? Here is the link to where Google Recommends it: http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?answer=35769&topic=15260
Believe me everything that is related paid listing in quality directories is worth every dime. I have listed websites that are attractive for people who visit yahoo directory . You know what ? They are targeted traffic thanks to yahoo Web Directory..
Could the money be better spent in submitting to other reputable but cheaper directories? By submitting to Yahoo! Directory, you are buying a little insurance against future devaluation of the link as it is very unlikely Google will devalue links from Yahoo! Directory.
Yes, it's worth if you're site is big and nice..if you're submitting crappy site then no; it's not worth it.
Is your main competition listed? If so you likely should be too. Otherwise, invest the 299.00 on a quality SEO service for better natural search results. Of course thats just my opinion.
If your site have a rss feed you can submit the feed to "MY Yahoo" "Add Content" your site will be listed in no time! Be advise your side must be up to standard dow. Get good links "! way Links"
Since e few weeks I listed one of my sites there. I'll let you know if the things will go up with the SERPs now. Cheers.
Hi, Im working on getting my masters in internet marketing (my goal is to be a director of internet marketing for a large business) and after taking alot of classes, what most things come down to is percentages and risk/rewards. Is that $300 going to generate at least $300 in sales? lets look at 2 scenarios below: Basically, to determine weather or not it is reasonable for you to get your site listed in Yahoo for $300 really depends on the website itself, How hard is it to get to your target rankings in yahoo/google for your keywords, How much money does this site generate, ect. Scenario 1 If you run a website that generates in the tens of thousands of dollars per month in revenue and are in an industry where keyword optimization is more difficult (for instance if you sell car insurance, its harder to get good rankings than inf you sell mountain boards) Then its a no brainier to get listed.. Especially when the listing fee for a site that generates $1,000,000+ per year, that's just 0.0003% of your revenue. The chance is greater than that $300 spent will somehow increase you sales by at least 0.0003% over the course of a year. Weather this is from seo optimization (most likely case) improving a ranking by just 1 single spot can possible mean thousands of more clicks which result in more revenue. Scenario 2 On the other hard, If you run a small e-store were you make lets say $10,000 per year and are selling a customer product or service, it may not benefit you that much to be listed in yahoo for the fee. Is that listing really going to increase sales by 3%? especially when you are selling items easy to optimize for?
Arcadia, I agree, if you have the money then go for it. Your other thing is if you have it in your plan, then just work your plan.
