To be listed on the nice PR pages in the Yahoo directory you need to be "popular"... But what does Yahoo consider popular? How is this popularity measured? Backlinks? How many people click on the search results? Probably not PR, right? As thats Google's!... Anybody fill me in on the secret... I dont want to be on the bottom
I'm not sure how much the measurement has changed, but it was primarily click through tracking. They used to use redirect links in the directory to measure this traffic, but now I see it only on the search results.
I have pondered this question myself. It seems to me that only the biggest sites are popular, so maybe it's the amount of traffic the sites got that defines rank. Don't know if it's the click through tracking or another tool they use but it certainly works wonders keeping my site at the bottom.
I had the same question (normal, all we are interested in is how to cheat the system to get the best results ) I don't think it is related to ctr since I got my site in the popular section as soon as it was listed. I think the popular page is the top level of a certain category where sites are not permanently listed there but it is filled with sites that editors think they can be be useful for a higher level category.
I mean the page where popular sites are listed. It is usually the top level categories, like travel for instance, you don't find site listings but in the "popular section" sites that editors thought are general enough to be placed in the top category travel, are placed there. so what I mean is popular sites are those sites that can be placed in top level categories.
So if the category has 3 "under" pages and my site is listed on page THREE I basically have no chance to naturally go up to page ONE?
Checking my listing, I got confused. Now it is listed in 7 categories. I was first listed in "a city service" and "neighboring city service", now it is listed in "the state service", "the service by state", "the service by region" and two other pages. Needless to say that it is also listed in those pages in ca.dir.yahoo uk.dir.yahoo au.dir.yahoo sg.dir.yahoo asia.dir.yahoo ,.. I don't know when they added those page but I think it was when they reviewed the listing back in september for renewal. now that's a great investment
And you know what it is also listed in "the first city something general" and "the first city something less general" then "city service". I mean it is listed in higher level categories for my city not only for the service I provide
