Hey is there anybody here who knows inside story of Yahoo Directory. Is Yahoo directory getting FREE for Genuine sites ???
If not than I am really lucky to get my site indexed on Yahoo Directory without payment. And the funny part of it is that I don't even remember when did I submit my site to Yahoo Directory.

Anyways anybody else having similar experience here ??

What's your website, and where is the URL published?

Well I do not want to disclose that domain here.. since editors from Yahoo may not like it :)

And anyways I have tried to enter into DMOZ for atleast 5 to 8 times but

DMOZ sucks Yahoo rocks for me :)

Editors wouldn't like it? Come on

I doubt that you got into a paid directory for free, on accident.

I asked you because it is more likely that you either are in a Yahoo! directory that isn't paid, or because you made some other mistake. Unless of course you can give us a URL, I call shenanigans.

Are you sure you weren't looking at the web results displayed under the yahoo directory results? Just under "No Directory Search results were found". :D

    It's quite possible!

    1. If the domain was added before Yahoo charged for being included in the directory?

    2. If the domain was added as a non-comercial free listing.

I got lucky and have a domain that qualifies under #1. I bought it as it was expiring and built the "new" site based on it's listing in Yahoo. However I was not as lucky with DMOZ as it was soon removed from their directory! The link below is for paid as well as "FREE" submissions to the Yahoo directory.

Well I think I am experienced enough to differentiate between search results and yahoo directory listings.. between Paid and Free listings..
I don't have any problem with people having doubt on my site listing in Yahoo Directory since I am here only to share my experience and wanted to know if others did have a chance like that.
Giving the URL can put me in trouble as you know.
Any editor here working for Yahoo may take up this case and delete my link there which will be a big loss for me thought I did not pay for it :) and also I did not intend to promote my site here..

But yes one thing for sure.. my site is listed in Regional category and it is buried way too deep inside sub categories..

Hmm... looks like you got lucky....just submitted one of my sites we'll see in a few months how it goes..............
And there is just the little glitch of replicating your results....
I'm still wondering if your site is town/community related.....it could be that they favor municipal sites....

Really lucky person, as Yahoo demand too much money for adding site to their directory. Anyhow, good luck for you, and no luck of millions other.

myhart is probably right: it was probably listed under non-commercial directory part of yahoo. either way... good work. it's not easy to get in there.

i've had trouble getting legitimate non-commercial sites into DMOZ. I'm not terribly impressed with the way that they work. And often you can't even get an answer out of them. Oh well.

Are the directory links important due to page rank only or do you actually see traffic from them?

You can submit your site or feed free here. After awhile the "spiders" will crawl your site and pages.

I submitted my site 3 years ago and paid for the inclusion $299 just once, the site is still there even if i cancelled subscription 2 years ago. They are a trustful directory if they leave useful sites and not just thinking about money!

My first post here. I can confirm for a fact that Yahoo Directory Submit is not free for commercial/business listings. However, lately it seems that web search results are being blended into directory query results. I'll have to investigate this furter. Could be a result of the Yahoo Bing deal?

Yahoo does accept directory listings for free, I had used their directory submit tool few weeks back. Its there but it comes without a guarantee that you your site will be accepted and also without a time frame of acceptance.
I haven't been accepted yet. If the person who has started the thread doesnt wish to give out his url then atleast should make available data regarding site, i.e page rank , SERP position etc, else this thread is quite meaningless.

Well as for my sites rankings are concerned my site is ranking very well on all the major search engines and since it is a genuine shopping site with no adsense or any advertisements on it, the non-commercial site factor goes out of window.
And no there is no traffic from Yahoo directory so far, but yes it looks good when you look at the site details and when it shows > DMOZ - 0, Yahoo - 1 :)

Anyways I have seen a site which is listed on yahoo and that site is in SEDO parking.. its really sad to know that such directories have links from SEDO Parking sites.

I have had my site listed free with yahoo for sometime and i use this option to free submit alot of sites
but this is not the same as the paid listings, I have also used them £180.00 or $299.00 paid listing tales 7 days max before it is live. But i have listed free sites that have been visable in days.

I do think that they mix the 2 paid/free depending how you search local/europe etc
this is most probobly the fairest way anyhow. But i dont belive for one second you can get listed in the yahoo directory e commerce sites/for free iv'e heard this claim so many times but no evidence to support it as usual.

dmoz can be a pain i have listed sites and never heard anything back for months and other times listed them no problem in weeks. I dont get it tbh that is maybe lucky.
