I recently changed my homepage from 455 words with a 3.96% keyword density to 2010 with 1.79%. I ranked #3 on Yahoo for months, haven't developed any significant new back-links, and kept my keyword within the <h1>, <b> and <title> tags. So basically, i didn't change anything significantly other then total words and density, and once my site was visited and re-indexed, I dropped to #12. Obviously it could be just a coincidence based on other factors, but I thought I'd share the information.
Hi Meetball, I have experienced a few issues with yahoo in the past week. I ranked #2 for a main keyword for the past 2 years. A week ago i dropped to page 4/5 ??? I have not changed anything on my page. I have not been building any major backlinks. Most of the sites i used to compete with are still around page 1 and 2 but i have noticed a few new spam site. One thing i noticed with the high ranking sites is that none of them have much written content ...??? i have always made a effort to have as much text onpage as possible and im wondering now if yahoo are penalising sites with text and key word % ? Im still trying to work out what they are up too ..
the same here... you rank well for months, then you go to page #2, stay there for some weeks and then go back to page #1, but not the first spot as it used to be... but hey, it's still good !
strange movements in Yahoo.. one of my well ranked site was also dropped to the third page , where as a brand new site without much optimization has been pulled to 1st page for competitive keywords.

Wow, A wealth of info. I always thought Yahoo was a "backseat" but guess I'm wrong. I will say that I make more from YPN than Adsense per month.
my stuff has been up and down all year in yahoo.. yahoo seems to respond to massive sitewide changes more
For a period of time, I was on the first page of Google for a specific keyword, but I could never rank as high as it need in Yahoo so I can get traffic from it. Yahoo is very weird..
This is information can tell you that yahoo is not like google. It makes its ranking decisions based on the keyword density on your page. Thank you for sharing this information
