Yahoo buying ad network for $300 million

Yahoo is buying online advertising network BlueLithium for $300 million in cash, building upon an expansion aimed at ending a financial malaise that has ravaged the Internet pioneer's stock price.

The deal announced late Tuesday marks the latest step in Yahoo's attempt to regain some of the ground that it has lost during the past three years to Google, whose Internet-leading search engine propels the most lucrative online ad network.

As part of its comeback efforts, Yahoo recently spent nearly $700 million to buy a major online ad exchange, Right Media, and upgraded its system for distributing ad links tied to search requests. The Sunnyvale-based company also has extended its reach by agreeing to deliver ads to more partners, including the Web sites of Internet auctioneer eBay, cable provider Comcast Corp. and hundreds of daily newspapers.

I think YPN will become more attractive for advertisers. I try it before 1-2 months but it`s too expensive for now.

Yes. But i think someone of PPC networks must focused on offline advertisment too. I hear that google trying to buy some newspapers.

This will help YPN in the long term to gain more of the market share.

I think YPN will be shelved and Right Media / Blue Lithium will be the main focus. YPN is an abysmal failure.

They passed on that months ago. Dumb move. They acquired Aquantive instead. It was rumored Microsoft offered 30 billion in cash for Yahoo. Semel wanted around 100 billion. The chances Yahoo can survive going it alone vs Microsoft and Google are not in their favor. If we go into an advertising recession, forgetaboutit. Microsoft has around 60 billion in cash or something. Google has about 20 billion. Yahoo has maybe 4 - 6 billion. Spending like there is no tomorrow. Not wise. But hey, what do I know.

Yahoo Market wise is worth 31 Billion I don't think Semel wanted 100 Billion but to buy out Yahoo Microsoft would need to spend at least 45-50 Billion plus I don't think Microsoft wants to buy out yahoo. I think that they believe that they can beat them without buying them. Also yahoo has 3 billion dollars in cash on hand.

$300million, thats unbeleiable money. i wish i had 300$ let alone $300million. lets hope yahoo could gain back some of this market. although i really love google i would love to see somebody like yahoo regain the market and become the market leader again....just to bring google down a peg or two and show that just because of the money they have behind them, doesnt mean they are going to be the market leader!!!

This is something im going to watch closely over the coming months.

    That's a pretty serious move.
Let's hope YPN will go international soon.
