Yahoo!, AOL, OneSearch results favor parent company Verizon Media’s own websites

I ran some tests to check if the search engines owned by Verizon Media — including Yahoo! Search, AOL Search, and OneSearch — consistently ranked other Verizon Media-owned websites — such as Engadget, TechCrunch, and HuffPost — higher in their search results. All three partner with Bing to deliver search results. The results are otherwise comparable to other Bing-powered search engines, except for re-ranking Verizon Media websites to the coveted top position.

I thought people might be interested to read more and look at the data. The sample size isn’t huge, but the manipulation isn’t subtle either.

Google also prefers certain websites over others.
