Yahoo Answers Rank high on Google but not at Yahoo why?

    Hello friends,

I just made a search for 'Free press release distribution for advertising' with yahoo and google. At the front page of google there is a yahoo answers link at 5th position I think. But in yahoo this is not viewable and also there is no links to any yahoo answers on the first ten pages if I'm not wrong.

Why this is so? What is the reason behind yahoo answers top placement on Google?

    Thanks.

I can attribute it to the different Search Engine Algorithm followed by Yahoo and Google. Accordingly yours SERPS differ.

A search engine determines how it ranks websites since there is no universal method for optimization, it takes work in a lot of areas.

Maybe because they are ENTIRELY DIFFERENT SEARCH ENGINES?

Think about that and the answer will reveal itself to you.

Yeah, very true. But its really funny and interesting that google services picked up for top SERPs and yahoo services not at yahoo. I just made a post about Yahoo SERP capacities here - http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=1698995&page=3#post13735222

    Please add more useful information.

Technically, "Yahoo Search" isn't even yahoo search. Yahoo search results are powered by Microsoft's "BING" engine.
You can check out this article for more information: http://www.wired.com/epicenter/2009/07/yahoo-gives-up/

This explains to an extent why Yahoo Answers! doesn't rate any higher, and in this case even lower in Yahoo! than in Google. It is simply not Yahoo! search, but BING search. Google gives more importance to Yahoo! Answers than does BING. It boils down to how the algorithms are written, and how the individual search engines rank Yahoo! Answers. Since Yahoo! search is powered by BING, it isn't weighed any higher in the search results even being a Yahoo development.

    Hope this helps. :)

I would not agree upon this
    Yahoo Results For a query
    Bing Results for a query

See the difference ?? Yahoo still has not deployed Bing algorithms else everything would have been same. Yahoo and Bing s algorithms already match quite a lot and suck simultaneously.

Correct, you will get different results. This is patially because Bing incorporates hotels, flights, etc. into their webpage. However, I can assure you that they are operating on the same algorithm and index via the same criteria.

The new yahoo provider, BING, is still working out the problems IMO.

To add more information on the corporate level, Yahoo has shut down it's datacenters and their search is no longer managed by yahoo! They are using Bing. You could call it: "Yahoo! Search powered by Bing". The economics behind it are that yahoo! earns the majority of the ad revenue and doesn't have to manage datacenters. In return, Microsoft experiences a huge increase in search volume which will result in a more lucrative search engine in the future.

Just in case someone was wondering. :p

Oh my, with so many search engines powered by Bing or powered by Google, the Internet is lacking of search alternatives whenever someone can't be found on Bing or Google, or you may simply want a "second (search) opinion"
